Hi, just completed a major overhaul of the brakes and after trying a couple of rear ST brake pedals, I think I have a little too much travel. The pedal is firm but travel distance appears to be excessive, any advice, cheers, David

It can be difficult, no not difficult but tedious perhaps, to bleed all the air out of the proportioning control valve and the secondary master cylinder but air in that circuit can cause a soft pedal and/or the "pedal drop" that occurs when both hand and foot brakes are applied and the hand brake is released while some foot brake is still applied. Their are plenty of resources in this forum regarding brake bleeding including this thread. I can also send you a system flush and replacement PDF file that I find easy to follow. PM an email address if you want it.

Sounds like you still have air in your system, try to bleed the system again following the links here in the proper order.

Hi all, many thanks for the replies and advice. The bleed went well and I spent a good half an hour concentrating on the PCV valve. As mentioned, the pedal and hand brake are firm, I was just wondering how much travel there is roughly on the pedal, David

Dave, just arrived home from a ride. I haven't went out and measurd the travel, but just guessing by my foot movement, it would be in the range of 25-35 mm. (1" to 1-1/4")

My rear brake pedal travels 13mm maximum so it begins to apply brake pressure at maybe 6 or 8 mm into the travel.
