Yes and NO. If you can get your hands on the boot then you have half the battle won. I have replaced mine with LED's. I had my tupperware removed, so it was not too bad to put my hands on the boot. The boots are a press fit. You just have to wiggle them out. No twisting needed before removal. Just be careful that you do not dislodge the bulb while removing the boot with bulb.

When you remove the bulb, be careful not to drop it inside the reflector (there is a thread somewhere here where someone mentioned doing exactly that). Getting it out (if dropped) is difficult.

An LED light may not last long, others who have tried it have reported that the heat from the headlight destroys the LED..

After trying several LED bulb types I have one which has been working for over a year and a half. These also worked for the same amount of time in my RX8 which was also cooking LED marker bulbs. I contacted superbrightleds.com and asked if they had any newer LEDs to try. They suggested the WLED-xHP5: 194 LED Bulb - 5 SMD LED Wide Angle Wedge Base WLED-WHP5: Cool White. These are the LEDs which appear to be working....

You can see what I've tried here:

I picked up a pair of Sylvania / Osram led's and so far they have survived a year and 3 months.

Not the cheapest alternative but they do last and draw considerably less power than the stock incandescent.

Hmm....I have HIDS. I wonder if they put off less heat than the OEM bulbs. I have had the WLED-6 bulbs for over 3 years.
