Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) has 3 gyro sensors, each monitoring pitch, yaw and roll; 3 G sensors, measuring up-down, right-left and fore-aft accelerations, enabling
the multiple Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) to control traction, ABS, launch, wheelie and slide. That's just the 1st paragraph of the electronics package!

The new R1 has passed Aprillia, BMW and Ducati w/this beast. Wet weight: 439, HP 197.

I think KTM and BMW have offered 3 axis ABS/TC in certain current 2014 production models. KTM beat BMW to it and both beat Yamaha.

I think the KTM system only applied the lean angle technology to the ABS. I don't think it was part of the traction control system. I had to ponder that because when I first read that part of the magazine article I thought KTM had already done so as well.

Several European mfg (BMW, KTM, Ducati???) already have had lean sensitive traction control systems in production bikes. When KTM released the 2014 1190R Adventure last fall it was the first to combine lean sensitive TC with lean sensitive ABS.

I could be wrong but that's how I see it.

KTM, a year ago or so?, was the only one I remember reading about on the lean angle monitoring system.
But in the end, all these systems are only as good as the software programming packages that control them and the rubber on the road.

When Marc Marquez goes down on his own, an on-board computer glitch is what put him down, not anything he did wrong.........which is why he is always smiling. :)
