Finishing the California case so we can move on
...
I recommend we next look at the part numbers for the Wire Harness, or Wiring Loom, for the two Canadian models and also [for] the California '91 ST1100. (The part number [for it] changes on the Canadian models. The recommended [parts] site is cmsnl.com for this. The 49-state model can be looked at later.)
32100-MT3-67
0 is the Wire Harness part number for the 199
0 Canadian ST whereas
32100-MT3-67
1 is the Wire Harness part number for the 199
1 Canadian ST.
The early version of the '91
California model is an American equivalent of the '90 Canadian model.
The later version of the '91
California model is an American equivalent of the '91 Canadian model.
The part number for the '91
California ST Wire Harness turns out to be two, and the same two, part numbers:
32100-MT3-67
0 for the
AC (California) '91 "up to serial number: MM100
245".
32100-MT3-67
1 for the
AC (California) '91 "from serial number: MM100
246".
I think we have evidence there that:
The early or launch '91
California version ended with the building of serial number 100
245, and
the later, non-launch '91
California version began with the building of serial number 100
246.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is similar evidence using the
Frame part numbers, as follows:
50100-MT3-67
0 is the Frame part number for the 199
0 Canadian ST whereas
50100-MT3-67
1 is the Frame part number for the 199
1 Canadian ST.
The part number for the '91
California ST Frame again turns out to be two part numbers (but this time, they are not the same as the two Canadian ones):
50100-MT3-73
0 for the
AC (California) '91 "up to serial number: MM100
245".
50100-MT3-73
1 for the
AC (California) '91 "from serial number: MM100
246".
I think we have enough evidence now for some
Answers in the 1991
California ST case.

Some proposed Questions for discussion are:
Q1: How many launch STs did Honda build for the US and Canada?
Q2: When did they build them?
Q3: How did they label them?
Assuming that the results above in this post are acceptable, we have these three
Answers:
A1: Honda built
241 California launch ST1100s.
A2: They built those
California STs in about February and March of 1990.
A3: They labeled each with a VIN that is in the range from
JH2SC26
1*MM100
005 up to
JH2SC26
1*MM100
245, with a month of manufacture that in all known cases, is either 02/90 or 03/90, and with a model year of 1991.
The number of launch bikes,
241, is from that serial number range, 100
005 through 100
245.
About six months after they built
California launch serial number 100
245, Honda built
California 100
246, which is not a launch ST.

Next, we could:
A. Find a North American parts site to use (instead of the Dutch cmsnl one used above).
B. Look for more parts changes than for the two parts (Harness and Frame) looked at above.
C. Move on to include the
49-state '91 model in this discussion. (After that, we could write up an overall history for the North American launch of the ST1100 Line.)
As for option A, none of the following three American parts sites seems useful for this kind of part number comparison:
http://www.partsfish.com or
http://www.hondapartsnation.com or
http://www.bikebandit.com
As for Option B, there are engine mounting nuts/bolts in the Frame grid we could use, but that may be too boring.
