I just bought a 92 ST1100 and was wondering what the gas mileage of these beasts are. I found a website that takes input from owners and stores it. That site had a value of 49 mpg for this rig.

What do you guys experience?

You're going to get all kinds of answers on this one, from low 30s mpg to 50mpg, or even a few mpg higher. So as they say, YMMV.

My own experience is this:

around town, mix of a little freeway: ~40mpg
freeway cruising 70-75mph: ~50mpg
freeway cruising 80-85+: ~45mpg

I average 36-40mpg regularly. Only mod is a K&N air filter. I run regular gas and try to get the "real" stuff whenever possible.

Like stated, gonna see lots of variables. That IS a fairly close average for our early STeeds. Mine is in the 46-52mpg range at a consant 75-80mph on the 'slab'. Lots of variables with a bike

I get 47mpg running 75 on the interstate.

I'm getting 43 mpg with mostly slab riding. Usually at 75 to 85 mph with occasional long 65 mph stretches.

I went back to an earlier response to the same question....this was a few months ago....but same answer...

I seem to consume 5L for every 100KM I travel...and oddly enough, it doesn't seem to matter "that much" if I'm totally on the highway or in the city. It's pretty constant regardless. This works out to 48 miles per US Gallon (128 oz) or 57.7 miles per Imperial Gallon (160 oz). I know a couple of times I have seen 4.5L per 100KM, but then I've also seen 5.5L per 100KM...but those occurrences have been rare. Like other's who have posted here and on other mileage related threads, it really depends on how you drive.

I'm in the 46-50 range. The low side is usually colder weather when I have to STart up with the choke on. Actually get better mileage when it is in the 90's here in Indiana. The roads or speed is not much of a difference for me.

I've averaged 46mpg, mostly commuting, for the past 1.5 years. Highest has been about 52.

I get 36-38mpg. My commute is a mix of freeway, two lane country road and city riding. And I'm on the "fluffier" side.....

I get about 42 mpg normally, varied speeds and riding locations. BUT...

If you want to get that number down, because like golf a lower number must be better, just keep turning the right wrist. That seems to have the best influence on it. Drive off hard from stops and fluctuate your speed up and down a lot with big roll-ons. If you work hard at it you can get down into the 15-19 Mpg numbers, but it takes real dedictaion.

Guess you have enough answers about that one. I'll bet your next question will be how many miles do we get out of tires.

Over 6 yrs, anywhere from 37 to 46 MPG (US) average of about 40, Lately mostly in freeway commute, in other words, periods of going nowhere.

Over a 169 fuel fills my 1991 ST1100 has an average fuel consumption of 43.30 MPG, best was 54.67 MPG. This is mixed riding 2 lane roads, interstates, solo and 2 up riding, loaded and unloaded.

Now with that said my wife rode a 2000 ST1100 and when we would travel together she would always get 5 mpg better than I. I have now started to ride her 2000 and it is about the same as my 1991. The biggest variable here is, I am 75 pounds heavier than my wife. I believe this is the biggest contributing factor for the 5 mpg difference. No pun intended.

OK now we have a sample. Are there any mods that will increase mileage? Besides modifying the grip of the right hand of course.
I've thought about Fuel regulation, there was once a popular mod to open up the Air cleaner.

Thanks guys. I rarely ride around town so I probably should have asked for highway MPG. I know that on my 83 Magna I get 40-50 highway and 30 in town. I was mostly curious cuz I have a pal with a 2013 triumph sport bike and he claims something like 75 mpg.

This weekend I filled her up and put on 150 miles for the first ride and the needle didn't budge so I was hoping maybe these bikes were in the 75 mpg range.

Lots of answer; but, the answer is 42 of course.

That's a combined avg hwy and surface; but, it's pretty reliable for me.

Now what you really want to get is 30 because that is what I get as I'm screaming through the twisties in the Sierras... hmmm... I feel the need for a road trip coming on... When do the passes open again?

Highly unlikely......in either case

. Best mileage I ever got on the STeed was when the last 60miles of a LD ride had me at 25mph due to failing front wheel bearings. That brought overall mileage to 62mpg as I filled it before heading for the man-cave......definitely not the norm

Ride downhill.
Turn off the engine - mpg goes up fast w/ this mod. I also throw the engine in neutral when riding downhill (on deserted, clean, well paved roads, at moderate speeds only), let the engine idle and watch the fuel computer max out at 99+mpg. A real cheap thrill.

Seriously, Honda engineers and tunes these engines for what they picked as performance goals - power, acceleration, fuel economy. If you want to maximize one of those parameters, you have to give a little on the others. There are not many free lunches (unless someone buys it for you).
