So up until the last set of tires I've run the standard OEM bt020f's front and rear and get about 8k out of them. As they wear (in my experience) the sides of the front are gone well before the rear is done. That's not to say it doesn't square a bit.
This time I went with the 023GT front and rear and love the handling, at 5500 miles the front is wearing better than any of the 020's I had on. The O23GT rear however was feathering at 3500 miles badly enough that the rubber was balling up on the sides of the tire and looks as though it will be a goner by 6500 miles. Thinking of the better of the wear characteristics from the two tires I'm inclined to look at putting the O23GT on the front and in 020F on the rear. Have any of you guys tried this and how is the handling?
Primarily secondary roads, enjoy the twisties, occasional highway… when I have to. 42 pounds Front and rear checked before every ride

Thanks fnmag, I've never attempted mixing prior to this but I may try it this time. My friend has an FJR and swears by Avon's, that said his rear feathers at the sides too. Had a bad experience with Dunlops long ago, have never felt confident on them since.

I currently have the Bt020 on the back and BT023GT on front. it's been fine, infact very grippy and reliable and I do 800 - 1000 miles a week and don't hang around in the corners. Recently I've noticed a slow speed wobble on the front when pulling away, on investigation found odd wear (some may describe it as cupping?) on the front tyre (BT023). I've never noticed this with the old BT020s on the front so don't know if this is something with the BT023 or maybe something else causing it. But I'm going back to the BT020 for now. I've heard mixed reviews of the BT023 from people on here, some say its great and is the next logical step from the BT020, others say they don't like it it. I've had no problems until this wobbly wear - but this may just be standard I don't know. Just my 2 peniths worth.

My standard distance set on my ST1100s are BStone 30GT radial on the front and a BT020 BMW Bias on the back. I too have run all sorts of combinations and they work just fine. I've also run the BT023s radial on the front and the BT020 BMW bias on the back. BTW, ST1100 ABSII have the exact same front tire as the ST1300. I usually run the ST1300 rears when I go with radial rears (170/60 vs 160/70).

I reverted to the 020's again, go with whacha know I guess. I was pressed for time before a trip so I thought the better of experimenting.
