Any one know the pros and cons of the various kinds of lenses used for cataract surgery? I'm severely myopic, had Lasik surgery twenty years ago and wondering what the issues/options are........thanks.......ff

I don't really know about types of lenses - I really left that choice to the surgeon. But the results are amazing, I had the right one done a month ago, and will soon have the left done before Xmas. It will cost be ?5000 in all, being over here you can get it free but that means waiting for how long I don't know, and at my age every bit of time counts. Well worth it though, I thought just the gradual dimness would go but was amazed at the huge improvement in brightness and clarity.

If you don't need reading glasses, you can get implant lenses that correct most if not all of your myopia. Probably best to discuss this with your ophthalmologist (thanks spell check.) He or she can go over your options and outcomes.

I'm dependent on some serious reading glasses (6.0 diopters) and am also using distance glasses. The classic bifocal user. I've been going to a retina specialist, I have a bit of diabetic retinas. He tells me that when the time comes on the cataracts I'll have an either/or choice to make. They can correct for distance or for close up, but not both. There's an electronic lens coming that will help endstage macular degeneration. Probably something like that will eventually help with sight post cataract surgery.

Everyone I know has loved their eyesight after their cataract surgery, btw.

I just had cataract surgery earlier this week on my left eye. My right eye is ok right now and will not require cataract surgery anytime soon. My doctor took into account my current prescription and together we decided to have the left eye set to be able to read close up. When its time to do the right eye the doctor said that they have contact lenses to do a test run of that eye set up for distance.

Its still early on, but I am pretty happy to have gotten rid of the glare I was experiencing with my left eye while driving/riding at night.
