Last year I had a slight smell all year but no drop in the level. Over the winter I had the bike apart and tightened all the clamps I could get to. Now riding this spring, I still have a slight smell.

Now I 'm wondering if it's the t-stat o-ring.

If it stays the same I'll do it next winter.

Or bad hoses, leaking clamps, or a leaking water pump???

Sometimes over tightening them is worse...also check the condition of the metal pipes on the housing as they rust and pit under the hose and clamps causing leaks.

The expansion tank is right by your left knee on the ST1300. I have been having the smell since it got hot. I took the left lower cover off to check and see a leak if I had one. None found. Tank stays full. In hot weather there is a lot of expansion of the fluids in our motorcycles, which has to give off some odor anyway. No drips so I am going to ride. I initially though the overflow tube was off or the cover was loose on the tank.
