This is a side thread of the bird strike...

Tell us what you have hit with any bike you have been on

I'll STart

Cat in 1980 on a CB900C. Front tire across cat mid section at 35 mph. Cat ran and I was fine.

Grouse 2009 V65 Sabre. Flew from ditch and caught rear tire. Following biker was sprayed with feathers.

That's all I hope ....

Big dog, low speed, no damage to dog or bike.
Pregnant deer, 60 mph broadside. Absolute carnage. Three dead deer (twins) and motorcycle rider missing most of his pants laying in highway.

Nothing thank goodness but two near misses that could have been serious. A very impressive elk with large antlers and everything in CO also a very large black bear (7-8 ft) tall on the Blue Ridge Parkway, VA. Coming round blind corners both times I could have measured the separation in inches. After those two, I don't think anything could surprise me.

I've hit raccoons and possum, hit by an owl and a buzzard, ran over a dead deer in the middle of the corner that sent me airborne but I recovered control of the bike only to be taken out two weeks later by rocky the flying squirrel!

A deer on my way home from Fort Worth, Tx to Sacramento. Killed the deer, damaged the left side of the plastics. Clear packing tape for the headlight and duct tape for the rest made the ST rideable home.

A Ford Escort (3rd gen) in '96... the +700lbs bike STorpedoing it was lethal for the car though, but the '92 ST1100 was back up on the road again within less then two months...

An Opel Vectra B who swerved into my lane some-when in the early '00s... Opel suffered a big dent on RHS fender, '92 ST LHS cap + mirror shattered, bend cowl stay... big insurance aftermath as the driver was an illegal who'd borrowed the car from a friend, who'd borrowed it from another friend... etc... icon_rolleyes.gif

A 90ies Opel Astra F who intended making a LH turn into my left side, also in the early '00s... damage on Astra unknown as it fled the scene, '03 ST suffered a smashed LH crash bar cover, thorn LH wind deflector, attachment lock and lid of LH pannier in pieces...

In total it seems that animals behave smarter then humans in traffic... no feur or feather hits yet... ;-)

A Chevy pickup. Caught it with my left handlebar and flipped me and the bike. Had a sprained wrist, some sore bones, but otherwise ok. Truck lost a blinker.

Not sure if this counts, but one bird flew up from the side of the road, cleared my ST1300's windshield and bounced off the top of my helmet. No damage to the ST or me. Don't know about the bird, but it hit hard enough that I expected to find some gore on my helmet, etc., but there was none. Well, okay, I did total my first ST1300 when I low-sided it and slid into the back of mower trailer. Did $150 damage to the trailer (at least that's what the insurance company paid them) and totaled one two months old '06 ST1300 with just over 2K miles on it. I walked away without serious injury (ATGATT of course).

Beginning of March: Shunted into a Renault Espace when rear-ended by White Van Man. Broken mirror for me (about 75€), 2,500€ damage to the Espace!

Couple of small birds with no damage.

Two left turning cars, long time ago, don't remember makes. Snakes, muskrat, birds, buzzard, squirrel, wasp (stung), hornet(s) (stung 4 times), bumble bee (stung). Yesterday I had a first, a swarm of bees; counted 5 strikes on helmet/faceshield and couldn't identify all that hit the windshield and fairing. :22yikes: No stings - ATGATT!

What have I hit? Or run over?

It was probably 1970. We were having a spirited ride through a twisty city park in Louisville, Kentucky. My friend Rusty was on a Honda 350 and I am on a BSA 250. On a tight twist to the right, Rusty hit some leaves in the road, causing him to drop the bike in a slide. There was a low brick wall as a guardrail, and his bike was sliding along that, while he is sliding next to it. I am right behind him and I bank as hard as I can to the right, but it's not good enough. I ran over the calfs of his legs. The amazing thing is that the Beezer stayed on course and I did not go down. Rusty was not hurt too bad because we were not going that fast, maybe 25 MPH. His legs were pretty swollen but he was able to ride to the emergency room and nothing was broken. The bike was not beat up too bad either from what I remember. We were able to be laughing over burgers a few hours later.

I hit a rock on the ST a few years ago. (Photos of said rock in post 24.)

Other than the occasional dead squirrel, I do have one favorite story:

In 1998, just after I got licensed, I used to go out for short rides around the neighborhood and a nearby park first thing in the morning while Mrs. Blrfl was in the shower. At one point, I rounded a corner in the park and came across a groundhog at the edge of the road. He was far enough out that I stopped to avoid hitting him, and we sort of looked at each other for a few seconds. I thought we'd come to an understanding about what was going to happen, but Mr. Groundhog started running across the street just as I started rolling. I thought sure there was going to be a motorcycle-groundhog collision, complete with a go-over and all sorts of minor injuries to rider and bike. Turned out that my front wheel clipped the very end of his tail and he scampered off into the woods on the other side of the road.

Hmmm not counting dirt bikes.
Misc birds on misc bikes including one on a bicycle. Largest a duck that didn't.
Still live wasp that bounced off shield and ended up in the helmet. Might have been the 650sc.
Curb with the kick stand after a sideways hookup. 700sc
Glancing blow with bamby at maybe 15mph. ST.
High voltage line laying across all lanes in both directions on the interstate. All the electrons leaked out before I got there. ST.
