I just rolled over 200,000 km on my 2003 ST1300.
I noticed this morning that my bike odometer (not trip meter) has reset. I now have 357 km on my bike odometer.

Have any of you long milers had this happen (at 200,00 KM or 120,000 Miles)?

Are ST1300 odometers set up to reset after a certain number of mile??

IIRC the readout on the dash only has room for a "1" in the hundred thousand place, so 199,999 is the max out can display. It doesn't matter if it is km or miles. So us "standard" riders have an advantage that we can go 200k miles to your 200k km before the reset. Honestly, IMHO, that is the ONLY advantage we have over metric users.

I think the metric system is FAR superior in every aspect than our system of measurement. We have to memorize tons of numbers to convert...how many tablespoons in an ounce (needed that yesterday), how many feet in a mile, and which socket size is just smaller than 11/16".

What makes it worse is we "flirt" worth the metric system, as our law enforcement uses grams to measure drugs, our bottling companies often use liters, and our runners measure races in meters/kilometers.

I'd love for us (U.S.) to convert to metric, as conversion (mathematically speaking) ON a base-10 scale is so easy. But financially speaking conversion TO it would be insanely expensive...car dashes, road markers, speed limit signs, old maps, etc. would all be be outdated.

Anyway, sorry for the rant, but congrats on the 200k km badge!

BTW, can't the dash toggle between measurements? I wonder what would happen if you switched the dash computer to standard...wouldn't it read 120,000ish miles as opposed to, say, a few km?

Thanks for your response. I may try to switch the dash computer over to imperial measure just to see if it indeed reads 120,000 miles.

Using a 2-segment LCD digit for the 100k odometer digit instead of a 7-segment one like the other 5 digits seems like a ridiculous design decision. Granted, not a lot of bikes will enter into that territory, but the ones that do shouldn't have their odometers reset to 0. the 1100 was capable of recording a million miles/km, why would they downgrade that capability on the 1300? Please don't reply that they didn't have area to spare in the display, they could always make area for another full sized digit.

I agree...how much space did they save by only allowing the "1" instead of an "8"?!?

Well they save a bunch of money.

If all the awards on this forum where in Kilometers there would only be 17 bikes that needed that extra bit of display. if counting in miles the number is just 3, STony G, Great White Nor, and zooker13 are above 200,000 miles. HAHA was just thinking, Stony G's says 150,000 plus again!

I think the perception that their bike will go that far says something. There are plenty of cars that can't break 120, but their manufacturers still install speedometers that read that high. Honda is known for dependability, and adding that extra half digit says "we can go that far."

It's a moot point because they reset at 200k, but still seems silly.

Now what is frustrating is that the trip odometer resets at loss of power and "remaining miles" resets when bike turns off. Those two things are ridiculous.
