Hi

I have a P reg (1997 registered) ST1100T (according to frame sticker)

I've found a complete set of reasonably priced stainless brake lines from a UK dealer on ebay. The only thing is he advertises a set for an ST1100 1992 and a set for an ST1100 L-2 1990 -02. Both sets have different part numbers and the dealer states he doesn't know enough about the bike to advise.

Bit confused here as I though the only difference in the brake lines for ST1100 models was between ABS and non ABS.

Can anyone un-muddy the waters.

Thanks

I searched for 'ST1100 L-2 1990 -02 brake' and found that string.
The set that looks right to me for your (and would be the same for mine) is at LINK.

I looks like the L-2 has 3 bake lines in the kit and the "Honda ST1100 Non ABS (1992-)" has 2 lines. I only used 2 on my '01 non-abs.
I don't know where the third line would go unless they are including it for the clutch(?)...

Good luck.

Bit confused here as I though the only difference in the brake lines for ST1100 models was between ABS and non ABS.
Actually are there 3 models around:
- non ABS, '90 to '00 ('02 in the US)
- ABS-I/TCS, '92 to '94
- ABS-II/CBS, '96 to '00 ('02 in the US)

You might find some clues by entering the VIN at this site: http://www.cmsnl.com/
Just select [Honda] in the left window, the VIN code field will appear automatically.

If it really is an ST1100PT, it would be a '96, non-ABS police spec as shown here: http://www.bike-parts-honda.com/moto-honda-identification-ST1100PT-8419.html

It could however have happened that the fleet workshop had modified a "civil" bike to a P-spec, so i.e. an ST1100AT with strobe holders and rear gantry...
So I'd check on the fiche of the bike-parts link I gave and compare your brake system with that (or post some photos here, so we can eyeball and ID them ;-) )

The 2-line kits usually have 2 long lines that go from the master cylinder to the brake caliper. 3-line kits have a single line that goes from mc to a "splitter", then 2 lines from splitter to calipers. Not sure what ABS bike has.

I replaced my original 3-line oem setup with a 2-line bss kit. Many say that there is better feel with the 2 line. Difficult to tell when I went from 3-line rubber to 2-line bss, but we'll worth the investment! Braking is much improved!

Thank you for the replies. The kits I am looking at are full brake hose kits and both kits comprise 3 front lines and 2 rear lines. Links here

If you check them out the kits both have different part numbers, hence my confusion. I'll check my VIN on the CSMNL link though.

(Tells me it's a 1996 ST1100)

I'd contact the seller on this...
Weird as he offers one set for [non-ABS '90 to '02] and the other for [non-ABS '92 up]... doesn't make sense... non-ABS are identically build across all years...
I could only assume that the ['92 up] *could* in real be for the ABS-I/TCS... (which was launched '92)

I tried that, unfortunately he came back stating he wasn't familiar with the model and therefore couldn't advise. I think I'll take a shot on the 90-02 kit on the basis that he is prepared to swap although I really can't see why they won't fit.

Would the ABS-I/TCS kit not contain additional hoses and therefore cost more??

... I have a P reg (1997 registered) ST1100T (according to frame sticker) ... Can anyone un-muddy the waters? Thanks
Fentible, whenever dealing with Honda or describing your bike to a parts dealer, I suggest you take the words "P reg (1997 registered)" and pitch them into the nearest muddy waters. Focus instead on the word "ST1100T" which is from Honda. If a "year" is asked for, decode that letter T into model year 1996. (The letter P is used by Honda as both a year code for 1993 and an abbreviation for Police, neither of which applies to your Pan.)
... If it really is an ST1100PT, it would be a '96, non-ABS Police spec ...
You see, you have unintentionally sent even member ST1100Y glancing down the wrong path, which is something I have rarely seen him do.
... You might find some clues by entering the VIN at this site: http://www.cmsnl.com/ ....
... I'll check my VIN on the CSMNL link though. (Tells me it's a 1996 ST1100.)
There you go; well done; you've put us all back onto the correct non police path!
Your VIN should agree with those found at the head of this ST1100T parts list:
http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-st1100-pan-european-1996-england_model4791/partslist/
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Further, optional reading on year codes and such:
http://www.my-mc-phoenix.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=13428&start=70
which is the last page of the thread, but it is where T models like Fentible's are discussed (starting with the post dated 09 Feb 2015, 00:59).
