With evening temperatures gentle and delightful planned for an evening ride with like minded friends.

Bike STarted right up - and then noticed something that was not very good for an evening ride.

Both, both headlights were out - completely dark, and had been fully functional yesterday.

Checked the obvious: headlight switch and fuses, and electrical connections running to the headlights. All seems in place as it should be.

STumped - could problem be a relay?? or??

Ideas?? Assistance, Help?? Guidance??

Please.

Thank you,
-Elliot

  • Fuses D and/or G
  • The Hi/Lo beam switch, as v8-7 suggests
  • The starter switch

Good luck!

My vote is a stuck starter switch. It happened to me. Wiggled the switch and the lights came on.

WOW !!!! Incredible !!!!

Got a dental issue - recommended behavior - see a dentiST

Got an ST issue - recommended behavior - poST it on ST-Owner's.com

Jiggling the STarter switch assembly (if that's what its called) and doing so was inSTant remedy for me - wow, don't know if I was more pleased than surprised or vice-versa ??

Removed the screw holding that unit together - was then able to "jiggle" the entire assembly. That did it - inSTantly - both headlights lit upon STarting the engine.

I'm so grateful - getting STarted a bit late for the ride - but surely will catch up with those sissies in no time flat. Couldn't wait to poST this good fortune.

Thank you !!!!

Glad you found the simple fix. After you get back, I'd go through all of your switches and apply a good contact cleaner.
Also check the connections etc.
A very good idea, indeed.

Can you recommend a good "contact cleaner" ?

Thank you,
-Elliot
