I need help! I'm replacing my rear brake pads and can't get the caliper back on the rotor. I took the wheel off and pulled the old pads out. Cleaned the pistons and pushed them all the way back in. But, when I install the new pads, I am not even close to getting the rotor to line up. I've got all kinds of room between the pads. I even put EBC's in instead of the OEM's I have because the EBC's are a little thinner. I also put the wheel and caliper on with just the outside pad in and then tried to put the inside pad in. I'm off by the entire thickness of the pad surface. What am I doing wrong? I have the service manual and I've had my rear wheel on and off many times before.
Please HELP, it's driving me nuts!

I just did this on the road during my trip. Spring clips in the right way? Piston pushed back in ALL the way? Mine LOOKED it... but wasn't.... infuriating.

As your pads wear, the entire caliper assembly slides on the pins due to the wear of the fixed pad. Remove the pad that is hitting the rotor and gently pry the assembly so the pad you left in touches the rotor. This should allow you to put the other new pad back in.

The slider bolt is sticking, I have had to pull the boot back and squirt some WD40 int here...work it back and forth and thin BOOM it went on. This exact problem, off the whole thickness. Looking at the caliper from the rear... first bolt with the boot over it. Caliper isn't sliding open all the way.

Remove the caliper and separate the caliper from the mounting bracket. Clean both sliding dowels and use some rubber safe grease on both. Take some q-tips and clean old brown factory grease out of rubber boots before you put it back together.
Replace the poem pads and make sure the clips are inserted correctly.
Make sure you pads are not sitting on, instead of next to the retaining tabs.
Clean pad holding pin and put everything back together.
I think you will find it will all fall into place.

Thanks guys! I'll give it a try tomorrow night. I'm so fed up with it now I'm liable to start breaking things! I'll report back when I get back to it.

Can I do this without removing the brake lines from the caliper?

Anything under a rubber boot should be lubed with silicone grease only. Hydrocarbons (petroleum greases, WD-40) and rubber don't get along well.

No, I'm not on the road. It's just sitting in the garage waiting on me to figure out what the heck I'm doing!

Make sure the caliper is on the correct side of the caliper stopper bracket, the one the "funny looking" bolt goes through. It took me awhile to sort that out and I've had the brakes off before!

I have never taken the caliper off the caliper bracket, so I don't think that is the problem?

Have you tried pulling the wheel again and give it another go. Maybe the problem will show it's self.

I was going to mess with it tonight but I just got done with a bicycle ride and don't really feel like it. Maybe I can get a picture of it and see if anyone can spot anything wrong?
