So due to my fault I kinda ruined my YTZ14S
OK no worries I read all the "knowledge" and decided it was time for some re-engineering of the battery box. I ended up being able to fit a 33% larger YTX20H
I bought the Interstate because its a rebranded Yuasa and I have a national account with Interstate Batteries
I do need to build a better strap and now I definitely need a lower side cover from a newer model it works for now :D

CCA for the YTX 20 H is 310 (from Yuasa website). The YTZ14S does 230.

Other specs: YTX20: Capacity - 18; wt - 12.4 lbs; amps - 1.8; dimensions - 175 x 87 x 155 mm
YTX14: Capacity - 11.2; wt - 8.6; amps - 1.1; dimensions - 150 x 87 x 110 mm

Sounds like a good upgrade. I'm not sure I understand whay he means by 'a new side cover' - unless this is the plastic that covered the battery and not the tupperware.

I'm not sure what year the "lower" side cover started but there is a side cover that fills that area where you can still see the battery with the normal side cover on.

Here is the cover he is talking about. And the Honda Part numbers P/n# 83460-MCS-D90 & P/n# 83410-MCS-D90

I'm thinkin' that lower bit was added on the 2008 and on models. So that battery fits underneath the plastic no problemo? More details in the re-engineering would be appreciated.

That looks like a rebranded Deka battery, made right here in the good ol' USA. Excellent AGMs, the terminals are superior to Yuasha's, Chinese, etc. I have one in my KLR. Excellent, and worthwhile upgrade.

Good thought but all the instructions inside the box were branded yuasa plus I asked the supplier where they came from and he just said its a reboxed yuasa :)

Any pictures of the battery box modifications?
Sorry did not take many pictures :( Basically I remounted the ABS to a 45 degree position and rebent the brake lines. This gave me the width. I took the stock lower battery tray bracket and lowered it via slotting the holes which gave me the extra 1/4" in height I needed after moving the brake lines. I also carved out the rear lip of the tray itself and notched the foot rest bracket. The only real issue is the negative post touches the painted side panel deflecting it by a 1/2" or so. When assembled you really can't tell so I am just going to live with that.
Based on the current knowledge of you cant do that I was going built a whole new aluminium tray but this seemed easier and gets me riding in time for the weekend :)

What's the possibility of miles of vibration causing the negative post to wear through the side panel?

My guess is yes it will eventually but how many miles ? If it happens really quick I plan on reforming the panel with a little dimple then repainting it
