Tank range of ST1300

Ok guys, I'm sure this has been done to death, but I couldn't find it on the search function... how many miles do you get out of a tank? Any way you like to measure it- full/ to the neck/ stop at first click.... then as soon as you get to a couple of bars/ reserve light comes on/ engine stops- just tell me how you're doing it please

I'm new to the 13, so I don't have a figure yet, but I used to fill up my old 1100 every 250 miles (1 week of commuting exactly). Fuel light had been on since around 230 miles.

Also, out of interest, have you found going slower makes much difference? Used to get about 40 miles more out of the 11 riding like a (wife on back)

I fill up just about everyday. I do about 125 miles on 3 gallons of gas. That's about 41 miles per gallon. @ 7.5 gallons, that's right around 307 miles to a tank. I think I've gone about 280 miles on a tank, but usually won't push it that far, because I don't want to physically have to push it! 4:

When I do long distance rides, I'll ride 120 miles, take a break, ride another 120 miles, gas up and take a break, and repeat!

I normally do not drain the tank that low.....but once, I ran it down till the last bar shows and then the MPG shows how many miles you have left to go at the current comsumption rate. I got over 280 miles and had at least a 1/2 gal left of fuel.

On a long ride I usually fill up around 240-250 miles. That's right about where I hit two bars and take little more than 5 gallons to fill. I've pushed over 310 miles before. I figure on 42 mpg average and have never taken more than 7.2 gallons. Book says 7.7 gallon capacity. If I ride 50-55 steady I get about 50 mpg. 50 x 7 = 350 miles. It would be painful to ride 50 mph for 7 hours though. 70 or 80 for 3 hours not so bad.

Temp seems to make a difference. When riding in the heat 90+ temps, I've gone 350+ I usually am getting flashing bars around 250-60 and fill up around 300. Usually 6.5 gallons to drown the fill bar.. Only twice over 7 gallons.

300 miles is my average. Speed definitely takes a toll. You push over 60 and it starts going down. Really fast drain on the tank when you are running 80+. I pushed it once, not fun.

I put 220-250, but I haven't a clue as to the actual range. Feel free to discard that response. Thanks to the help from the list, I changed my air filter and my mileage improved by almost 5mpg. I was shocked. I believe my mixed town-country riding is now about 40mpg. That would give 40mgp x 7.5g = 300m. There's no way I'd ride 300 miles on a tank. I'd take the opportunity to refill the gas far before then.

I am pretty certain I could push to over 300 each tank, but do not. Highest mileage was 296 and took 6.5 gal, so could have easily broken the 300. I'm with SupraSabre and not ready to literally push it. In AZ we regularly run up 6K feet in elevation and I have never really noticed any MPG difference for climbing, course usually coming down that elevation too. Regularly 2 up and rarely under 60. Slower can help the mpg, but the 1300 loves to run in the 3k to 4k rpm range.

I have several fill ups were I passed 300mi. I did run the bike out of gas last year with only 286mi on the trip odo. Most of my fill ups have been less than 7gals. The one time I ran out of gas was in the winter, so temp does play a factor. With the higher summer temps the fuel injection leans out the mix a little. I consistently get about 41mpg at 75mph.

Most often I'm in the 280 - 300 range ( extrapolating from the actual mileage when I fill, to where I could get if I really pushed the issue.) A typical fill-up is expended on lots of running around on relatively short local hops but on the highway or a long day ride I can get much better than that.

Most fill-ups have been in the 5.5 - 5.9 gallon range, with mileage in the 250-270 range; I seldom get to as much as 6. Usually start looking to fill up when the gauge is at two bars.

Ditto on temp matters a lot. In winter, she's good for 200 before I get the countdown timer. Summertime, I get to 270 before the countdown starts. That's around town. On the interstate in warm weather, I often hit 300 before the countdown.

I don't run mine down to the bottom. Since I mostly ride alone or with my wife we are good for about 200 miles and then a break which typically includes a fill. But over 77 fill ups I have averaged 47.58 mpg. Best is 57.11 worst is 37.25. Most likely I had strong head winds with the 37.25. Anything I get in the 50's will be at higher elevations, typically over 8000 feet. I seldom ride the interstates at sustained 75 mph plus. Most riding is under 70 mph.

Fill your tank. Drive like you usually do for say, 100 or 200 miles. Fill up and calculate your mileage and compare that to the 'average' shown on the dashboard. After the first season of riding, my average was within a few tenths of what was shown on the bike - 41 plus. Since then I've gone on a few more longer trips, run at higher speeds, and put in a speedohealer and tweaked it so the odometer reads very close to my gps and mile posts along the superslab. I'm now getting around 38 -39. As they say here, YMMV.

The tank holds a squidge over 7 gallons, but the gasoline cools the fuel pump. Some guys here say it is not a good idea to run the tank down to the last bar on the fuel gauge regularly (one bar is approx = to 1 gallon) for long term life of the fuel pump. I don't really know the answer to this one, and am waiting for a long term, statistically significant study to answer this question once and for all. In the meantime, I fill up at the half way to 1/4 tank left point.

All I have to say is after the "Range" display gets below 20 miles, it flashes "--".

I'm the outlier down there on the bottom, BUT.

In this just past WeSTOC, I averaged about 35 mpg, and would generally fill up at 1 or 2 bars, although one fill up was down at flashy and took 7.2 gallons. Most of my fills were in the 5.5 to 6 gallon range. Now, for the "but".

I was pulling my Bushtec trailer the entire time. Significant amounts of my mileage was accomplished at 75+. The joys of 80mph speed limits.

Without the trailer, I average 40-45, trailer drops the mileage by 5mpg. The shield up or down also has an impact on the mileage, 2-3mpg.

Between 190 miles on a (very fast and windy) bad day and 333 on a great day has been my experience. Yours may vary! ST has an amazing fuel injection computer, it feeds it lots of gas when it can handle it like cool and at low elevations where there is lots of oxygen and leans it way out up high and warm. If it's not windy I average filling at 250. My bike has been tested many times over long trips at US speeds and it comes in about 43 most all the time. My first 440 miles the day I bought the bike was 44 mpg. Last month on a 30 state ride the average over the trip was 43.

You want great gas mileage ride the high plain of Nevada CO. Utah....

Did same, was suprized as the indicator stopped giving range estimate, took 7 gal topping it off. I don't do that anymore

Hmmmmm, with 75 mph limits, one can usually ride over 80 w/ no problems. And I've encountered traffic moving at 85+ for long rural stretches - by traffic, I mean everybody was moving over 85 in groups and singly.

Yes, the shield does make a difference, and larger aftermarket windshields will also drop your mpg a bit - not a lot, but it is noticeable.

I have got as low as 35mpg and 50mpg on the high side once or twice. I most always stop at the fill bar. yesterday I rode home without filling up Im not sure if there is anything left in the tank or not, the count down started at 50miles I think when I got home no mileage was showing so I guess according to the computer I had less than 20miles to go. Sorry I do not know how many miles I logged on this fill up mph varied from 55 thru 105 no tickets acquired . I do apologize my writing skills are very poor

speed limit in NZ is 60 MPH (100 kph) very rough road surfaces (tarmac has stone chips) and most roads don't have long straights. best distances 500 ks plus (300 miles) per tank. Usually fill with about 2 bars on the gauge, averaing 18 ks per litre
