I looked thru all the threads and did not find what i was looking for. Has any one made there own muffler gaskets or is it better to break down and pay mother Honda the price she wants? Might any of you have a set sitting on a shelf that would be for sale?

Thanks Peterz

Excuse me for asking, and maybe my ignorance will show, but exactly what is a muffler gasket? I used to have one on my ST1100, but I've taken the mufflers off my 1300s several times and never seen gasket.

I assume you are talking about the cylindrical gasket that goes, say in the crossover pipe or in the exhaust pipe where the muffler slides in. Some of these cost, I think, $30 or even $60 (priced them last year, don't remember actual price except it was exorbitant). I just reused mine since it was not damaged after I removed the muffler and exhaust manifold/header pipe. The header 'gaskets' are hollow copper O-rings that crush when you tighten the nuts and are cheap ($3 to $4 each).

To answer your question - no, I did not try to make my own.

Well, of course, my ignorance shows. I didn't even realize there were gaskets there. I have taken the mufflers on and off and never noticed them. Honda Direct Line has them
18391-ML0-003GASKET, MUFFLER
for $21.42 each.

Got a set of all three cylindrical gaskets, 1-crossover connection, 2-mufflers for $9+ each at Partzilla.
+1 I ordered 2 of them from Partzilla as well havent installed them yet. Watch the bolts on the muffler clamps I had to replace the clamps they aren't cheap if you want OEM.

I got in the habit of replacing the stock clamps with stainless 'T' bolt clamps. They clinch up as well as the stock parts and another eyesore goes away. Sometimes I can get the right size from my local shop, otherwise I order thru Dennis Kirk.

What clamps do you use? Can you give us a link? Thanks

Can't make the link copy. Go to the Dennis Kirk website, search on 'exhaust clamps'. Several makers are listed....just measure your old application and match one up. The T-bolt design is much stronger than the worm-gear typically used on fluid hoses.

I tried some similar but didn't like the way the bolt stuck out so I went with OEM I used a simple hose clamp until they came in.
