Can't get my bike started :(

I was out for a ride, going down the freeway at about 75mph, and then all of a sudden I loose all power and the bike just shuts off like a light switch. It's a 2003 ST1300. I was able to coast safely to exit and tow the bike back to my house, but now I've got a dead bike. When I press the starter button, the engine seems to cranks over, but it doesn't fire up. I checked all of the fuses and none of them are blown. I'm at a loss. Again, it was running fine with no problems and just "shut off" going down the freeway. The lights work, horn works, etc. Any ideas?!?!?!

I don't know that specific switch but the idea would be to short around it, or at least test it with a meter. I threw it out there as a possibility but I think it's unlikely to be that... seems like those are usually an intermittent thing.

I'm sure you know but the first thing to check is always be sure the kill switch is off.

Good luck, everything from there will be a little harder....

When you turn on the key and flip the kill switch to run, does the fuel pump run? Are all dash indications normal?

Just reread your op and saw that it cranks but won't start. Won't be the side stand switch that I mentioned (or kill switch). Sorry for the bad advice. Sounds like you lost spark. Start with that.

Pual is right on the kill switch won't crank with that off.

By chance did you try clearing a flooded engine? You have to crank it while holding wide open for 5 seconds several times. I had that problem once. It's in the manual.

I had the same problem 2009 ST1300. Bike wants to start and you can here the fuel pump wind up. Mine was the kill switch. Did this a few times. I don't use the kill switch now and no problem since. Still have to replace the kill switch. Hope this helps.

My kill switch can get a short sometimes. Worth rocking it off and on a dozen times. Luck:)

I had that happen with a side stand switch that failed.

Looks like I'm close to you. I'm off tomorrow and then next Monday and Tuesday if you'd like another set of eyes...
PM me here...

When I turn the ignition key to on WITH THE KILL SWITCH OFF, the fuel pump does not run. When I flip the kill switch ON, the fuel pump starts running. I'm assuming this is normal. But perhaps what you guys are suggesting is that even though the kill switch might be operating the fuel pump correctly, it still might be defective? Cutting spark to the bike?
