Frustratingly discovered today that the pads are different on 08 onward models, the front are different but the back is still the same as earlier modela. Why change :(

After 08 Honda increased the horsepower by 50% and hence needed more brake area to control all the extra power over the previous models or engineers decided it was time for a change .

I found this out last night while trying to put on a new set of pads on my 06. Both packages had the same part number but they were different inside. I now have new pads in one side only. Anyone want to trade some 08-12 pads for some 03-07 pads? It's been so long since I bought these I don't know where I got them.
Has anyone tried to grind a set of 08-12 pads down to make them fit in an early bike?

Starting in 08 the pads are larger due to the calipers being modified/larger. Also, there's a drain channel vs a drain pin-hole to allow water to drain better - I assume.

Maybe not a heart-stopping model update but it was done for a reason, probably to help with sticking SMC issues.

Shouldn't be the same part number. OEM? The 02-07 pad had a part number change iirc the change was an added pc of paper in the blister pack.

That's what was on both packages. I knew there was a difference in years when I ordered the pads a long time ago. When they arrived and had the right part numbers I just put them on the shelf till I needed them. Since I can't return them I might see about grinding down the top tab.
