Pretty nice, gotta hand it to Yamaha for keeping the old horse updated... let's hope Honda sees the ball in their court?

The cornering LEDs are a cool concept, I hope they actually work well.

Seeing that just makes me sad. Another bike I'd like and it's not a Honda....again.

There you go BakerBoy. Also has a 6 speed Tranny. Time to get rid of that out dated other machine.;):D Maybe I need to trade my 2014 FJR in also.

I could do without the 6 speed...but the rest of the package is good!

Is this the third update for this bike? Its great to see Yamaha and Kawasaki listen to there customers. I know where my next bike will be coming from.
I believe this still falls under the Gen III category (2 significant upgrades to engine, firmware, suspension, and/or fairing from the original 2003). But Yammie does adjust certain features of the bike over diff model years within each Generation. For example, the 3rd Gen debuted in 2013. In 2014 they updated the cruise control firmware (no longer an 85mph limit, IIRC). In 2015 they put out the uninspired Liquid Graphite color, with no other changes. Now in 2016, Yammie has incorporated some medium-level updates to the drivetrain and lighting--but I don't think they'll call it Gen IV (my opinion).

Is this feature a "poor man's" BMW Adaptive headlight?
I suppose that's one way of putting it... I'd like to see it in person or hear from owners once the bike is out and see how they like it, sometimes what looks like a feature ends up being a gimmick.. But, I doubt it in this case.

2014 Yamaha FJR
Plenty of speculation on the FJR forum today. Most of the press I'm reading indicates that Yamaha took design cues for the '16 FJR from their existing FJR customer surveys. I've noticed quite a few subtle improvements and refinements to the new Feej that leads me to believe this.

I was worried that Yamaha was getting out of the large S/T market. Very glad to know that is not the case.

Or maybe a new & improved version, that doesn't require an electronic motor--so no moving parts to fail.

I'm not a Yamaha guy (buying a heavily-flawed 2006 FZ-1 quickly brought me to that conclusion!!), but this bike looks like Yamaha is building motorcycles that their customers want. Unlike another, not to be named Japanese motorcycle company (not Kawasaki or Suzuki :D ) that seems to be building motorcycles it wants to convince their customers they need.

I will be seriously considering selling my 2004 ST1300 and 2012 Super Tenere for the 2016 FJR1300A. I was waiting for the Cobalt Blue color and the 6 speed is a big plus for me.

Yup, cobalt blue! :04biker:

Below is Chuck's '14 with a bit of photoshopping I did in Oct 2014. Wish the '16 had silver rims.

The FJR is just cramped to me, but this bike is now just loaded with desirable features. At lot of technology has matured since 2002-2003 .

Yamaha does indeed have the American riders figured out. Gotta keep minor changes on every new year so ya have keep up with the Jones to stay in style.
