ST1300 instrumnet display glitch help needed

When I started the bike up today I noticed that the fuel gauge was missing two blocks in the center, and the fuel mileage display was displaying out of place (down about 1/8"). See the picture. No amount of restarting or bouncing through rough road brought it back to correct.
Anyone seen this before or have an idea how to repair?

PS I recently changed out the battery and took off the tupperware to bleed the brake system and cluch system, but have ridden it since then without this display glitch being present.

Never seen that before. Is the large harness plug on the back of the instrument panel fully seated?

check out the thread "losing lines on display" from a few days ago, you have company. It appears to be a LCD display failure mode.

Thanks both of you. I have to go out of town for a week without the St starting tomorrow morning, but will get into it when I get back. Meanwhile, maybe I can accumulate ideas.

By the way, what is the best way to access the large harness plug on the back of the display?

You'll have to remove the windscreen and then the black top panel underneath it.
