2012 ST1300
I bought a new 2012 ST1300 about 6 months ago and wanted the extra storage offered by a top case. I really like the looks of the top case made by Honda for the ST1300 but two things stopped me: it's available only from overseas vendors (mostly in the UK) and the price is very high ($800 including shipping, and that's without the LED light bar).

After looking at dozens of aftermarket models from Givi and others, I came across a top case made for the Honda STX1300 that is similar to the case made for the ST. The CTX uses a detuned version of our ST motor and drivetrain. It is not similar in appearance to the ST (it is a cruiser style) but the saddlebags and top case are similar in size and capacity.

The top case appears to be made by Givi for both bikes, and the 45L capacity makes them proportionally the same. It appears to me that Givi makes the Honda cases and used the same lower half for several Honda top cases (ST1300, CTX1300. N700, more). The colors are limited to black, dark red, or blue.

The top case for the CTX1300 is still offered new on ebay for $300 including a backrest, plus $100 for a mounting kit. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-BLACK-METALLIC-REAR-TRUNK-45L-2014-CTX1300-/271530599741?fits=Model:CTX1300&hash=item3f387c253d:g:CKQAAOSw7PBTqLAM&vxp=mtr)

I had to drill 2 new holes in the metal mounting plate, and 4 new threaded holes in the carrier on the ST. The finished installation looks great and is quite solid. If you can find it at a reasonable cost, the mount kit sold for the ST1300 works perfectly with this case with no modifications to the plate or carrier.

There is one drawback...The case is not sold with a lock and key set. For $20, Honda sells a tumbler set specific to this case that you configure for any key with a straight ridge on both edges. I could not configure the tumblers for the ignition key on the ST because it has cut edges, but it was quite easy for an older model Honda car key.

Well we need to see some detailed pictures showing what you did to get this mounted on the ST.

Pics would be great. I'm having trouble finding any with Google because SHAD has such great SEO. Besteem's isn't bad either.

The ST box apparently drops down around the mounting plate and would sight higher than stock if placed on a wider platform or rack . Does the same apple to the CTX box? Most importantly: does the CTX box have a factory LED or option for one? ;) The ST box with spoiler/LED is really sharp looking but it pricey as mentioned.

I didn't expect as much interest, so I was not prepared with details. I will post pictures in a day or so. In the meantime, the black trunk is Honda part # 08L74-MJN-A02ZC and the mount is Honda part # 08L73-MJN-D00.

Here are some pictures of the installation. I considered shooting photos as I worked out the installation, but ultimately I got involved in just getting it done.

The case is so close to the size and shape of the ST1300 case that the original carpet sold by Honda for the ST top case fits perfectly.

Now if I can just find the P/N's to order some of those little plastic bolt covers on the mount!

Looks really nice. I could have bought one of those for my 2012 and saved a few bucks!

Very nicely done. You made it look like it was made for the ST. Thanks for the pics.

A profile pic with the bike on the center stand would be great! Does this case drop down around the carrier as does/did the ST's top case? Would setting it on a larger rack or platform raise it significantly? It does look like it would hold two helmets but probably not a phased plasma rifle in 40Watt range.

Well done. This looks great and saved you a boat load of cash to boot. I've had my top box and spoiler for years and it is one of those farkels that I can't live without...

At 45 liters, the case holds two fullface helmets. The metal mount plate on the bottom is about 1/4 steel - really rigid so the base is pretty much vibration free.

The base plate that attaches to the luggage rack comes with the top mount adapter for the case.
