I am talking to a member about buying some of his ABS system. I am wondering if you can convert a non abs bike to a abs bike and if there is any reason to do that. I am guessing that it is easier to just buy a bike with ABS but I really like my bike. Just wondering :D

There's quite a bit to do and am not sure if the conversion is feasible. Computers, pumps, linked brakes, different rims, front forks, extra fuse block...cheaper and easier to purchase one. Go for the post 96 model

I was looking at a 2002 but I like the red of my 97. It isn't a huge thing to me but I was wondering

Buy the 2002 and swap the tupperware, then sell the 97...it'd be a lot easier........ff

I have spend a bit of time on this subject since I have both models - electronics, front forks, triple tree, all calipers, all rotors, fairing stay, rear hub (there are some machining differences), electronics, additional harness, both rims, all the plumbing - that's just the start. ;-) Much easier to swap the plastic except you would have to get a new two piece front fender - different for the ABSII.

I never thought about swapping the plastic. Great idea and my wife can ride the 97. Is the ABS worth it

With the ABSII you get an extra piston in the calipers, more brake pad area with more aggressive pads and thus better stopping power than a standard model - not counting the ABS function. And the front tire is a 120 width - the same as the ST1300 - so you have a few more tire options.

Can't you put a 120 width on a non ABS/ If it is a stupid question, remember I am a newbie to ST
