I laid my bike down on I-215 in Vegas today after a car that did not see me came into my lane. After recovering from the car changing lanes into me, traffic was stopping ahead, I could not stop in time. Locked up the brakes, when I realized I could not stop, I laid it down and slid into the car ahead of me. My bike jacket worked well, ripped and shredded with only a scratch on my arm. Bruising from sliding down the freeway, luckily I kept the bike in front of me as I slid into the car ahead. My friends said I just won the lottery.....Bike is totaled. Walked away with only a scratch and a bruise on my hip. Good thing I have a second ST

Glad that you are ok especially since the bike was totaled. That really stinks. Glad you have a backup ST although I am sure not for that reason.

Dang, I'm really glad you're OK. Just went through this myself a couple months ago, not fun. I guess you were on your non-ABS bike?

Sorry for your get-off, but glad you are physically OK. I too had a lottery-winning crash on my ST back in November - caused by tar snake configuration- not other drivers.

Well that sucks! How old are you? I'm wondering what a crash would feel like at my age now 62. Dont want to find out though I may. Congrads on surviving though!
I also wonder if you can even lay down an ABS bike.

Thanks to all, still thinking WHAT THE ....HAPPENED, it was so fast. For being 50 and sliding down the freeway for 75 feet this morning, I am in good shape. Decided to take a couple days off, watch a movie and have a beer...Still can't believe it happened. Thanks....Rod

Glad to hear you are ok.

Hey, after working on parting out my 1997 ST1100 over the last few months, you may want to ask your insurance company what the buy-back cost will be. I know a lot of ST-owner members who need mirrors, shock, alternator, fasteners, etc. If the buy-back is cheap and you have time you may want to help out a bunch of members and sell off easy bits then have a junker take the rest.

Just a thought...

Glad you're OK. I did similar a couple years back, due to a car changing lanes into me and totaled my '05 (since salvaged). I was 60 at the time and still came away in pretty good shape except for a very slowly healing whiplash..

Glad to hear you are more-or-less okay, and that ATGATT did as expected. Sorry the bike died but it died a hero, protecting you. Couple days off to think about life sounds like just the ticket.

Best wishes going forward, whatever form and path that means for you.

Dang! Glad you are ok! I know from experience we don't bounce quite as well a we did a few years ago! You are lucky to have a spare ST, now that I am healing I have to go buy another!
Good luck on getting things straightened out.

Good to hear you are on the mend. Sorry to hear about the ST. What would you be doing now if you had been wearing a pirate suit. ATGATT really works.

Glad you are ok. You might consider a good massage from a massage therapist - someone who really knows what he is doing. Many years ago, a massotherapist told me that people involved in accidents end up with more bruises and soreness than they expect and that a good thorough massage can alleviate a lot of this. He was not the kind of guy who was self serving - and fortunately I've never had to check him out.
