Came up with a new camera mount this weekend. Mounting a ram ball on the side of the ST1300. The photos attached shows the mount I made up., works great.

Re: New camers mount location

Isn't half of your field of view blocked by the bike?

Re: New camers mount location

Will need an extension arm, maybe 3-4 inch or more. Good solid mount and easy to reach, I will rig up some kind of safety strap just incase.

That's a great location and I like it! I love when an obvious solution is discovered. Makes me wanna' slap my head and ask, "Why didn't I think of that?" I've been using a suction mount on the left fairing.

Simple, ordered a ram ball with 6mm threads, 6mm coupling and a 6mm bolt. Use lock tight on the ball and end of bolt, cut off bolt about 3/8 of a inch, add a washer, done. Install, tighten with 10mm wrench.
Think I will do one on the other side too.

Great idea! I've always had trouble finding a good mounting spot for a camera on the ST where the view wasn't partially blocked!
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for writing up this farkle, nice work. I can see where this is but some pics that are not quite so close-up would help us orient the farkle a little better... sometimes really close is too close! Also, a space or two between each image keeps them from looking like one giant collage. ;)

Great idea, I'd like to copy it. Since I'm a mediocre mechanic, a couple of questions: How long of a bolt? Was the bolt stainless steal? What did you cut the bolt with, a hacksaw? What size washer since I'll want to mail order stainless?

PS I've had the hex head bolt lock into the spacer between the frame and the fairing. I now use locktight on the spacer to the frame and anti-sieze on the hex head to the spacer. Anti seize probably would be good for your farkle too.

Here is a innovative place to mount your camera, I am sure you can keep a eye on it. Don't want to be in front of this guy. Watch video at about the 1:20 mark.

A fabulous solution. I had basically given up, and about one day from sticking a mount on my RH mirror.
I had a spare Ram ball with the 1/4-20 camera thread protruding from its base. This easily screws out and on this ball leaves a hole right through the ball mount to its top. I drilled out the hole to 6mm and found a 6mm bolt of perfect length. This Ram ball has a wide skirt at its base and I ground it down to 14mm diameter to fit in the entry recess. A drop of Loctite on the thread and in it went. Very solid. I had my cam at a similar location on my FJR, on the Canyon cages. The images were terrific. Highly watchable. My wife, who stays at home, agreed.
Thank you!! An exceptional and easy solution (30 mins with a smile on my face). Don't you love these!
Cheers

I have videoed with my cam in this location on the ST a couple of times.
I had my Replay XD on wide-angle and it really captures a lot of country side .The mount location is rock solid. I use the 40mm Ram mount and images are totally vibe free.
I still capture a small part of the red ST's side which I don't mind. It sort of gives the video some 'context'. A tiny bit of the front guard and spinning Michelin also appear.
It is a great camera location and the vid is a great way to capture a special place you are visiting.
