Hi, folks. Doing the clutch on my ST and putting it back together. How tight do those clutch lifter plate bolts go back in? Those are the bolts after you put the springs back in and put the lifter plate over them. I was compressing the springs pretty good and broke one bolt. Managed to get it back out of the pressure plate hole. Thanks in advance!

service manual doesn't spec any torque values for those bolts, it only says this:

NOTE: after tightening the bolts, check that the lifter rod guide rotates smoothly.

What size are they, 6mm? If so, the Honda generic torque value is ~7 ft-lb.

I've never accessed those bolts, so I'm not sure what type they are. The torque John mentions is recommended in the manual for "6mm flange bolts with 10mm head". The torque I mentioned was the manual recommendation for plain old 6mm bolts, which should also have a 10mm head. I think the difference is the flange bolts would have a round portion directly below the hex head, which is what the bolts in the clutch illustration look like. Are you sure the bolts are aluminum and not steel?

When I replaced the clutch disks on my 1100, I seem to remember those screws have a shoulder stop on them. If so, tightening them any further once they have seated will just break them.

They still need to be torqued; i.e. can't be loose. I would clean the threads and tapped hole, put a very light film of grease on the underside of the flange and use a drop or two of blue Locktite and then torque to 9 ft-lbs.

And I have never had those bolts out, but I seriously doubt they are aluminum. But maybe next year - I already have new clutch friction plates and springs in stock.

Done deal. Broken bolt snapped cleanly, hole in back of pressure plate and a slow reverse speed drill gets it out. New bolt. All in. Thanks once again to John, Jedi Master of ST and all others who contributed.13115976_616830445131942_4498674678768124833_o.jpg13115911_616830248465295_7151395216425334182_o.jpg13123138_616830168465303_7564381053746237098_o.jpg

OK, you put the photo out there so I gotta ask, this isn't the torque wrench you used for the 9 ft-lbs, right?

That's funny! This will get the lock nut off and back on at 80lbs.-ft. 9 pounds I have a pretty good feel for by hand.

May I ask what the final torque value is for the lifter bolt (6mm thread, 10mm head)
Is it 9 or 7 ft-lb?

the Honda manual provides different values for different types of 6mm bolts.

If its a flange bolt (round flange under the hex head) that's 9 ft-lb, if its anything else, then 7 ft-lb.

It is flanged, see picture. I will go for the 9ft-lbPIC5.jpg
