I want to upgrade the brakes and have heard you can fit the 3 pot calipers from the abs model.
Is this possible and what do I need ( I have a pair of calipers ). Sorry if this has been answered previously.

I presume you are talking about the ABSII calipers (96 & up)? If so, you'll have to change the forks or build custom hangers for the ABSII calipers as they take different mounts than the standards (and I believe the ABSI). You'll also have to plug or 'replumb' the 'extra' port on the calipers that are for the LBS system. BTW, I have a standard and 2 ABSIIs and have looked at the swap in depth.

Soupy if you are looking for more bite on the rotors, you can try a smaller diameter master cylinder (I have one off a VFR800) and/or pads with more bite, like EBC HH, and finally braided brake lines. The smaller master cylinder changes the hydraulic ratio between your hand and the pads, so changing from the OEM 14mm master to the VFR 12.7mm yields 21% more pad pressure for a given squeeze with your hand. That smaller master is OEM for ST1100/1300's with 3 piston calipers, as well as CBR1100XX etc. I am pretty happy with the smaller master on my 1990 ST but want to get new pads as well.

Yes I used parts off my 99 FiX VFR. Put some nice 4 pot callipers off a CBR600 onto that.

I think the VTEC 02-12 master will be the same size as I used.

Maybe I confused you with the brevity of my last post Soupy, sorry if that was the case.

I fitted the CBR600F4 99 calipers to VTR1000 fork lowers that I installed onto my VFR800FiX. These are a straight swap for the VFR lowers, and allow the use of the 4-pot calipers off a CBR6, as well as CBR929/954 or VTR1000 SP1/2. Had to make up adaptor plates to keep the VFR mudguard, but that was it mechanically, aside from the extraction of all the linked brake plumbing.

I don't think I would try this swap with the ST, the VTR fork lowers are quite a bit shorter than the ST so I believe you'd lose ride height and cornering clearance, and I'm not sure about the alignment of the discs and calipers, nor how fixed discs would work (the VFR/VTR discs are floating style).
