Fuel Gauge Replacemnet

I was wondering if replacing the fuel gauge float is a diy possibility. Mine has consistently read low for the past 3 years but after the last fill it is reading even lower. It went full on the instrument panel after filling but and I am down half a tank now and I have only ridden about 50 kms. I have a 04 ST1300. Thanks

There are many threads on problems ( bent float rods from gas siphon hoses ) and sending units troubles... just don't have one at hand right now.

But, that answer is yes, many have fixed them before.
