flexes ?????but it flexes
flexes ?????but it flexes
Givi makes a reinforced mounting bracket for their top boxes and the FJR. FJRs suffer from the same structural deficiencies when it comes to supporting top-boxes. It's called the SR357. Wonder if they make something similar for the ST??I was going to preemptively get my new bracket reinforced, until I saw this:

I have ordered and waiting for delivery.
If I grab the Givi rack and move it forward and back, it flexes maybe a sixteenth of an inch. There is no play left to right. Does this sound normal? It's not just the rack that flexes, but the whole rear section, plastic and all.flexes ?????

This non-Givi rack promises the extra support and eliminates the need for the heavy Givi plate for the Monokey cases:Givi makes a reinforced mounting bracket for their top boxes and the FJR. I tried to find these but wasn't sure exactly sure where to look. I didn't see it in the manual either. Any hints? And I'd regularly inspect all 4 bolts holding the subframe to the backbones for proper torque, as their known to come loose over years and years of (too heavy) topcase-rattle...
A torque wrench and a drop of thread-lock deals with the issue
Is this linky what you're looking for?I tried to find these but wasn't sure exactly sure where to look. I didn't see it in the manual either. Any hints?
First ride after I installed mine, I noticed a rattle and found it coming from the top box that was bouncing around a bit on the bracket. So I used a 1" wide strip of sticky backed insulation foam stuck around the perimeter of the bracket. The box still has a little give relative to the bracket but no longer rattles.Just a note - The Hondaline trunk for the ST1100 moves 'around' on the rack. The first time I installed one I thought I'd made an installation mistake. Sort of like the saddlebag 'flop' - built into the design.
Jim,I doubt if I'm carrying more than 22 lbs.
You believe correct...I believe ST1100Y is referring to to where the subframe bolts to the frame.
I got the missing bolt, torqued everything and used some Loctite. It's much more solid now.I just took it apart and here's what I found (frame extension mount):
- 1 missing short bolt
- 1 loose short bolt
- 1 long bolt with missing nut (found it in toolket compartment)
- 1 loose long bolt
Good thing I checked! It's off to the hardware store tomorrow to get a bolt.
No...As far as I know, the tailpiece that the rear assembly/racks bolts to, is a welded part of the frame
No...

And now enter this as thread title and see how it goes... ;-)...how the PLATE, CENTER GRAB RAIL mounts to the tail of the frame...
I was a bit confused. There is a subframe (FRAME, SUB part number 50150-MT3-000) which is on the bottom of the main frame. The part in question is "PLATE, CENTER GRAB RAIL" (part number 77313-MT3-000) which is the one that cracks and the bolts tend to get loose on.Just what bolts are you guys referring to?
