Dear Techies,

2005 St 50000 miles,
Latest change to bike is headlight bulbs and new battery
Although I think these are coincidental

Bike wouldnt start, lights stayed on with no key in ignition.
No F1 light at first.
Unpluuged headlight bulbs
F1 light blinked continually, wouldnt start.
wiggled the key F1 light became solid, made it home
Bikes in the garage
Checked fuses, all good
Changed headlight fuses anyway
Disconnected aftermarket bulbs.
Bulb sockets look brand new
no F1 light with bulbs connected
F1 comes on with bulbs disconnected.
Same behavior with oem bulbs too
Cleaned key ignition earlier

I think It might be a relay near the fuses
When I tapped them there was a click in the rear tail box...... I think
The one on top on the right (theres four of them, two on top two below)

The bike is working NOW since I tapped on the relays

How do I find out which relay it is and what their functions are.

Can someone help?????

I dont want to buy all four

Or could it be something else.

Thankjs

Arthur

Start here with an easy to read wiring schematic for the ST1300, just download the .pdf file to your computer, then use any .pdf reader to view, zoom, print....

Note that in the lower left corner of the schematic is a relay chart showing the device(s) powered by a specific relay.

The relays that Honda uses are pretty robust, before buying a new relay, try swapping the suspect relay with one of the other relays.
Observe if the problem stays with the headlamps, which probably indicates the relay is not at fault, or moves to the circuits that the donor relay came from, indicating that the relay is at fault.

Lastly, a few ST owners have discovered corrosion of the conductors (wires) that the relays plug into, it may be a good idea to inspect this area.

Thanks,

I finally had time to remove some Tupperware and saw the short immediately.
Repaired and relieved.

Crisis averted.
