Lever on St

Can anyone tell me what the plastic spring lever is for on the St it's at the side of the seat on the left side

It's the handle to assist you in putting it up onto the center stand... quite handy

This was easier for me than using the handle. I occasionally use the handle only to steady the bike when not on any stand. When using the handle while putting on the center stand there was the tendency to try to lift the bike up and on. So I switched rather than fight it.

Do you not have the owners manual? If it wasn't in one of the saddle bags when you got the bike, if you have found out how to remove the rear seat do that and look in the tail section for a black plastic pouch. That's where mine has always lived, at least every since I took the bike home with me for the first time.
