I just posted an introduction and am new to the site, although I've owned both the ST1100 and ST1300.

I'm looking to buy a used 2012 ST1300.

Pricing seems to be all over the place, varying by as much as $3,000.00 for similar bikes (apples to apples).

My questions: What would you consider to be a "good deal" on a used 2012 that's 100% stock, less than 5,000 miles and in excellent condition?

What would you consider to be a "steal of a deal" on the same bike?

Thanks for your help!

I bought a 2012 ST 1300 two years ago from the original owner. It had 20,000 miles on it (barely broken in, by ST standards). It was in very nice condition, no problems. Tires were about half-life. Came with a 3 year Honda warranty extension.

I paid CAD $10,000 (about USD $7,800) for it. Both the seller and I were happy with that price. That was what he advertised it for, and I didn't bother to negotiate, I just paid the asking price.

It comes down to what you are comfortable paying. When I bought my 2008 1 1/2 years ago I looked at 3 ST1300's, 2006 for $6800, a 2008 for $8000 and a 2010 for $10000. All had mileage around 16k, the 2010 and the 2008 were bone stock, the 2006 had a Corbin seat a factory top case and a few other things. On the outside the 2006 was at the top of the list and just had the 16k maintenance completed at a dealer. But when I drove the 2006 with 17k miles it just did not feel right to me. I could not put my finger on it but something just wasn't right. The 2010 was out it was at a dealer and they would not deal (so why to we call them dealers then). The 2008 was immaculate, original owner and slightly over priced (maybe). The PO had all maintenance records and the bike was a completely different ride than the 2006.

Personally, I think you can get an ST just as good as a 2012 for much less money by going older. These bikes last forever and there's no real difference between a 2005 and 2012, except color. You should be able to get a nicely farkled, well maintained 2005-2009 ABS with <30k miles for about $6k. This looks like a fantastic deal and one I would jump on if I were in the market for an ST1300. I look at ST13 and ST11 bikes for sale almost every day (Google alerts) and this is about the best deal I've seen in a very long time. Plus, it's the best color! ;) Good luck with your search.

So, at that price, is that a great deal, good deal or about average for a new, 5 year old discontinued model?

That's my dilemma.
If I were considering this bike, I would feel comfortable at $12,000. Some 'new' leftovers have been advertised at $14,995 which is a bit much in my opinion for a 5 yo left over bike. Plus side is that there are few to no scratches anywhere.
There are low mile used 1300's out there. Check out Craig's List in the Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston areas. Sport touring bikes look great but many first timers or old guys find the riding position to be uncomfortable for long rides. There are several on CL right now with under 20k miles.

+1 A great deal and I'm sure he made the previous owner happy by meeting the advertised price with no haggling. I'd have a BAG :D getting a deal like that and couldn't hand over the cash fast enough! (I'll never play poker).

You can find decent buys out there. Some people find the ultra great ones, the rest of use do ok!
I found a 2012 this spring with about 340 miles on it for $12,000 ...... With Heli-bar risers, Sargent seat, Staintune exhaust, fender extender, fork brace, wind deflector kit (uninstalled), "Booster Plug" to do whatever it does, 2 spare aftermarket windshields and adjustable levers ..... That I can remember right now. I have added a couple things, have a couple more to add, and then need to try to wear it out!!

It was actually a very stress-free transaction for both of us, in large part because I didn't attempt to negotiate the price.

The vendor threw in a new Corbin seat he had bought for it (along with the original seat), which was a pleasant surprise - the seat wasn't mentioned in the advertisement.
