Hi all. My water pump failed, shredded my timing belt and pretty much cashed out my original motor with 67k.

im picking up a used engine for $250 this week and am planning to do the swap myself. I already have a new belt to install with it. I'm going to check out the water Pump to replace or rebuild.

And tips/suggestions?

Thanks, wish me luck!

Timing belt shredded at 67k, ouch... both of ours when over 100,000.

I don't think there is any magic on a swap... just watch that you don't hurt your back!

And good luck!

Take a lot of pics as you remove the old one... handy for reference as you install the new one... wires, hose routing, brackets, etc. Looking forward to details and a few pics of this swap.

Good luck!

I'll be sure to post pics. I have a 40 amp alt on the current engine, likely swap that out. I hope it's not a huge hassle.

I have a good used water pump out of a 97 with 77k miles on it. In very good condition, not sure if it's compatible with pre 96 engines

Never done one, but I would bet it will be a lot easier to swap it while the engines are out than when they are in. And a lot folks do replace the 28 amp one with the 40 amp one. And since you have the parts, all it should cost you is some time.

I've gotten the fairings and exhaust off but the rest seems way too intense. Is there anyone I could throw a few hundred dollars to who can lead the charge with me? I'll be there to lend a hand getting the engine actually dropped out when lifting(floor jack) time comes. Thanks yall!

And tips/suggestions?
a) get the OEM w/shop manual (i.e.: showing correct sequence and torque of engine mounts)
b) its a lot easier to lift the (fully stripped) frame off the engine (securely resting on wooden blocks), then to hulk that 92kg sucker out the frame without scratching and dinging named ;-)
