As promised I'm starting a thread for my upcoming 50CC The Hard Way (NY to SF in less than 50hrs) this weekend. 20 other riders will be sharing I-80 with me for 2 days. Some of you know I purchased a new 2016 FJR that I plan to ride for this. I only have about 4K miles on it with the longest day being 600 miles the day I rode it home from Ohio. It's still not as comfortable to me as my ST is, but its getting there. Really wish I would have had time to knock out a few long days just to see what might hurt, but working 2 jobs did not allow that to happen. . I suspect my knees might bother me as the peg position is quite a bit higher than the ST and who knows what else. The new Russell seat felt pretty good on the few short runs that I've used it. Butt, the real issue with this ride is staying awake. I plan to take a 4hr rest at some point, probably Western Nebraska. If that's not enough, I'll pull the plug and flower sniff my way home...live to ride another day. I've done a handful of BBG's (1500 miles/24hrs) and each one took all I had. This ride is essentially back to back BBG's. Sept 10th 4am EDT we hit the road from Coney Island and need to be staring at the Golden Gate bridge by 3am PDT 2 days later. Wish me luck and follow along if you are bored.

Good luck Ken! When you hit that wall as we all do, take that break even if it's in a dang ditch.

I'm glad you started this thread Ken. I was trying to remember when your ride was scheduled.

Cheering for you & following along of course. You got this.

Good luck Ken. I'll be watching your progress as I have a genuine interest in doing a 50cc. I know you've got more LD rides under your belt than me but one thing that really helped me on my last BBG was a small handful of family & friends called me to check in. The conversation and thought afterwards helped my brain stay awake. Bluetooth is a great thing!

Good luck to you Ken. I really hope this goes well for you. I'll be following your progress. [-]How many other riders?[/-] Hopefully they are as experienced as you.

I have no real useful advice other than be careful and stay awake!

There are 20 other riders, most with a longer resumes than mine. Staying awake and alert is paramount. I'm loaded with music, phone numbers, fireballs, lemon drops, chewing gum...LOL

Thanks everyone for the well wishes.

Wishing you the best. From your SPOT, looks like I might have crossed paths with you at the campfire at ONSToc on Thursday evening. Be safe. It's a great goal to reach for and I hope it goes as close to plan as possible.

Good Luck Ken. Why the departure from your ST?
Almost 200K on it and it's needing a lot of work. Thought about another ST, but decided to try a new platform just to spice things up. I'll keep the ST as my winter ride. Plus my wife said "you need a new bike". Who am I to argue?
