I'm thankful that this excellent ST-Owners forum is still going strong. I joined 10 years ago when I had my first ST1100, a 1999 model. I sold the ST to buy a 2006 Yamaha FJR1300A, then I upgraded to a new 2007 Honda Gold Wing ABS (I replaced the stock suspension with Traxxion Dynamics), which I owned for nine years...until nine months ago. That's when I sold the 'Wing and retired from the sport after 39 years of motorcycling. (Both of my adult daughters were getting married, and I was trying to send a "be responsible" message to my two future sons-in-law who have a penchant for extreme sports.)

For the past nine months my garage has been bike-less. But I truly missed riding. A month ago I began searching classifieds for used bikes, and last week I purchased a 1993 Honda ST1100 from the original owner. It has only 38k miles and is in great condition. (Farkles include HeliBars, tall windshield, BMS saddle, auto fuel pump, Givi plate and ThrottleMeister.)

Yesterday I rode 250 miles on my "new" ST...with an ear-to-ear grin.

It's good to be back in the ST saddle!

Welcome back! You have a varied riding resume. Care to compare and contrast the ST, FJR and Wing? I would like to have the Wing's airbag; I just don't know if I could tolerate the Wing.

I know the feeling, traded my 02 1100 3 years ago at a local dealer, they never could sell it so I was able to buy it back for much less than they gave me. Don't think I will sell it again. I'm so happy to have her back.

I can't understand why you would try to show responability to a couple guys that are into extreme sports, either they are or they are not. all I see is that you gave up something you truly enjoyed so go out and enjoy your " new " ST 1100, it looks good and welcome back

To answer your compare/contrast question, Jspringnator:
- '99 ST1100 to '06 FJR1300: The FJR was better at high-speed canyon carving (what my riding buddies and I were into at the time), but all-day rides were ergonomically more painful than the ST.
- '06 FJR1300 to '07 GL1800: My riding buddies' laughter quickly subsided when I stayed in their rear view mirror in the twisties. (Traxxion Dynamics suspension on the 'Wing helped.) It was the Mercedes S550 of motorcycling: comfy and very fast!
- '07 GL1800 to '93 ST1100: Makes me feel young again...

So I have to ask why a ST1100 instead of of a ST1300? I have had my 07 for 9 1/2 years. I have rode all three bikes. Just wondering. I really like my 1300. The 1100 and the 1800 just do not feel right to me. Different strokes for different folks. Although all are great bikes. I understand price plays into the picture some times. And I can understand that.

I have a CBR 1100XX, 2007 ST1300A, 84 standard Goldwing and just last year totaled my 2012 airbag wing in a down pour.
Love them all but with a custom seat and Helibar Horizon bars the ST is the most fun. I miss my wing and will have another but it will have to have Traxxion Suspension put on it for me. The wing is heavy but all day comfort and with Traxxion on it it can really carve up the corners.
The CBR is for corners and a totally different style of touring. More getting off and seeing the sights every hour or two. ST is either and I have had it for this summer and with new tires the bike has been transformed into a joy to ride. Cannot believe how it carves.

Welcome back, glad you un-retired! Interesting color on your 1999... has it been painted? I thought 99s were black and that red is not a red I've seen on an ST11 before. Either way, nice looking ST! ;)

Gorovers,
I know how you feel, sold my CBF1000 because of a house move and when I got settled went looking for a bike. Tried a new water-cooled RT but couldn't get on with it and whilst scratching my head for inspiration, I do it a lot, I remembered how much I had loved my ST1100 in the 90's and 00's. That was 2 and a half years and 12000 miles ago and never looked back since. Mine is a 98W in green and is a joy to ride over distance. Up to 400 miles in a day and 4000 mile holidays have never been such fun. All we have to sort out for you now is a decent football/soccer team to support. Blackburn Rover's???!!!

I nearly sold my pan a couple of months back, but when dealers were asking me if I was part ex' ing it I would say no, which kind of told me I didn't want to part with it.

I honestly can't find a better bike for my needs, I always thought they were old man bikes, but after two years and 25 thousand miles I know its the machine for me, even if it makes me an old bloke !!!!!! Lol:hat4:
