I need to replace two of my flexible brake lines. The caliper end is sealed by copper washers, but the other end is screwed into hard piping on the bike (see photos). I've never broken into a hard piped brake line: how do they seal? Do I use Teflon tape, PST sealant, or nothing? Obviously I want a good repair on my brake line. Any advice is appreciated. DP

They seal via a flared end and don't require any sealant. Be careful getting the nut loose as they can deform because they are open in the middle. A flare nut wrench is best but a regular box wrench will work most of the time. Use a break free product to help things come loose if it doesn't want to break free at first, no sense damaging the nut.

The lines have a flare or "taper" at the end that seats to a corresponding seat in the fitting. They only need to be snugged up, no sealers needed
