Anyone hear how Andy's return trip via the left coast to San Diego then East to Houston is progressing? Haven't seen many posts on his ride back to home base.

Today is my last day in Canada. I am in Victoria, BC on Vancouver Island after spending time with family in Vancouver and then with friends on Hornby Island. Tomorrow I take the 6:00am ferry to Port Angeles, WA and start down the Pacific Coast highway to LA.

What an amazing adventure you had there. I love your photos and they make me want to pack my tent and ride. Thanks for all your posts and safe ride home!

BTW, your proposed Spotwalla route shows you planning to head down the California coast via Highway 1. Be aware there are a lot of road closures due to mud slides and bridge issues this season. http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi?roadnumber=1&submit=Search

-Construction Delays north of Fort Bragg
-Slide closure near Muir Beach (N of San Francisco) Not too bad detour.
-Bridge out near Big Sur
-Mud Slide around Gorda (N of Cambria/San Luis Obispo_

The Big Sur Bridge outage and mud slide near Gorda basically mean that you have to take 101 from Monterey (Salinas) down to Paso Robles (if not San Luis Obispo). Or maybe take Carmel Valley Road from Carmel over to Greenfield on the 101. You can still backtrack and drive North on 1 through Cambria and San Simeon, but the best part of Central California's Highway 1 is out of commission for you.

Thanks. I was monitoring this and have already adjusted my plans to take 101 down through the central California valley. Not going to do any back tracking as the magnetic pull of home is strong and so I am going to do San Francisco to LA in one day and then do LA to Houston in three days (or maybe two....!).

LA to Houston in 2 or 3 days? It would take me 3 or 4 days for that trip. I don't think that I have ever driven a cage between Houston and El Paso in one day, would never attempt that on a motorcycle. If I head west from Houston or east back to Houston from points beyond, I always stop at Fort Stockton for the night.

It isn't my ride, but if it was I think I would ride L.A. to Tucson on day one, there to Fort Stockton on day two, and then to Houston on day three, if my body could take it.

That is the plan, but when I leave Tucson I might just blow by Fort Stockton and keep going, and going, and going....

....all the way home ;)

You forget that I also have this horrible habit of leaving in the very wee hours of the morning ;)

Ha! My wife told me the opposite! And I only had a mustache. :eek:4:

So I told her, if I can't grow facial hair, she has to grow she hair long! :D

Been working like that now for 43 years...
