Hi All,

Not sure if this has been discussed earlier, but does anyone know of the best/ easiest way to access the ST1300 position/ marker lights? I want to swap out the OEM bulbs for LEDs.
Cheers

Remove the fairing middle cowls and the bulbs are right there to remove and replace. There is no other way for normal sized hands and arms.

I have a pack of the small LED lights for the position lights if that's what you need. PM me your address and I mail you a couple of them. To change them, you need small hands after you pull the instrument cluster out. That works, barely.

Which brand of LED marker bulbs failed on you,, Barry ?? Important to know,, so that others don't buy the same. I am picking up some this weekend,,, that I ordered from Superbrightled's. Thanks,, Cat' (whooho,, 500 posts) !!

Which LEDs did you install Jeff? The ones I bought failed within a few weeks.

I've got large hands and I did it without removing any plastic.

It did however take me longer as it does to remove and replace the instrument cluster, by which time it would be a doddle.

Lots of LED 194 bulbs can't handle the head inside the headlight.. I never could find any that did and the same went for the V-Strom and SuperTenere.. in fact I thought I'd gotten lucky w/Super Tenere but on my last trip one of those started flickering and 1 of the leds was out so I just went back to OEM bulbs.. Maybe those that have converted to LED headlight bulbs have less heat and issues?

That is what I have, LED headlight and the 194 equivelent in LEDs on the side. So far all is well after a couple months and 6000 kms. Perhaps it because I ride in 1C - only 20C weather? But really no heat issues here. Evitek and inexpensive LEDs from China.

I got the Sylvania LED's form AutoZone and they have been working fine. I also have the Evitek headlight bulbs. The Sylvanias I got match the color of the Eviteks pretty close.

Surely you guys pulling out the instrument cluster to replace position lights are joking? It's a doddle to remove the middle cowls to access the position bulb holders.

I did burn out a 194 LED or two when using halogen headlight bulbs but since changing to Evitek LED headlights I think that problem is behind. There is no heat in the headlight housing with LEDs.

WHATEVER you do, DON'T drop the bulbs into the headlight! DAMHIK!
Funny you should say that...as I did that exact thing. Luckily the LED was too big to get down into the bottom, and it had enough metal on the pins to allow me to get my magnet pen into the hole and retrieve it. Lucky catch and yes, careful not to drop it in there!

I have been using this one in the cool white version. It is a perfect fit.

I have been able to replace these without removing any tupperware. They are mounted in a rubber socket that is pressed into place.
The 06 was easy to do but the 12 took a lot more tugging to get it out. Reach between the handlebar and glove box. You will find the wires that will guide you to the back of the rubber lamp holder. If you wiggle the wire you will see the lamp move. It will take some persistence but it can be done. Make sure that you test the new LED before you put it back.

+1 On the Sylvania LED's. I've had them in for a couple of years now with no issues.
