Okay don't work yourself up into a riot. At the time, didn't know about JIS screwdrivers and I didn't hit the impact driver with 100 lbs of force LOL! I simply tapped it to loosen the screws and it worked perfectly without damaging anything.
Yes but in the wrong hands...

To close this out, Did a throttle body sync as well as the new new thermostat, and all is well and smooth.
Yes I got a brand new bad thermostat. These thermostat's don't have to be very "bad" to be bad.
The end!

And thanks so much for YOUR time and experience. Yes BTW there ARE 3 best tabs holding the rubber blanket. Why I correct you is beyond me..
Hit some ice this morning but all is well! Just a little ice...

just reading up on this thread for my new to me 06 1300 with 22K and is experiencing similar temp reading. Looks like i need to test a few things.

In the driveway idling she warmed up to 3 bars at 37 degrees. I rolled out of the driveway to 40 mph and she dropped to 2 bars. I hit the highway (60-75) and she is toggling between none to one bar. I get into traffic she bolsters up to 2 and 3 bars. i then roll on up to 40 mph and drops to 2 bars. Based on the reading you all have provided it may/may not be a bad t-stat. Time to roll up the selves and do some digging.

If it goes below 3 bars after having time to warm up, you'll probably be replacing your thermostat! I replaced mine in my '05 @ 17K.
