    Dixie STOC 2017

NEW!!! ... Dixie STOC 2017! "The BEST Kept Secret in South Alabama!"

    * -- RSVP Here --
    *
    WHEN --*October 26 - 29, 2017*
    *
WHERE -- Blakely State Park, 34745 State Hwy 225 Spanish Fort, AL 36527
... https://www.facebook.com/BlakeleyStatePark/ The campsites are within 100 yards of a brand new shower / bath facility! Site price is $20.00 a night for 1 PERSON ... $10 for EACH up to 4 persons per site ! I have reserved 2 sites for 3 nights!!

WHAT -- A weekend of riding, camaraderie, and adventure on the back roads of South Alabama.

    PLACES TO STAY -- There are 8 hotel/motels within 6 miles …
    https://www.expedia.com/Spanish-Fort...SAAEgKiUvD_BwE

FUEL -- There are gas stations in Spanish Fort and FOUR fuel stops, TWO along each route, the first is 15 minutes North of Blakely at an I-65 on-ramp. The others are on the actual routes. There is a gas station at Stagecoach BUT they only have REGULAR gas.

--- THU – “Setting Up - Camping Out!” - This is arrival day and I have no long distance ride planned, just a short RTE for those that arrive early. Spanish Fort AL is just a few miles south on AL 225 with ample dining establishments.

--- FRI – “Breakfast at the STAGECOACH” – Rolling out about 0730 our ride starts through some leisurely country roads in Lower Alabama heading up AL225 for 20 miles to the Stagecoach Cafe for breakfast. Then we begin A LONG LAZY DAY riding through the back country roads of LA with plenty of picturesque homes and buildings and a couple of spots where you are in a leafy tunnel that looks like something out of a travelogue. This will include a lunch stop at WHATABURGER in Brewton, Al. This route is set. RIDE – 310 miles, TIME 6:00 + 2:30 meals and pit stops. WARNING!! There is one really sharp and badly banked left-hander in the town of PINEAPPLE! It is posted at 25MPH ... HEED IT!!

--- SAT – “Breakfast at the STAGECOACH” – Once again we roll out about 0730 to begin our ride up AL225 for breakfast at Stagecoach. After the meal and conversation we continue north for the first 48 miles over AL59 and CR 1 to Perdue Hill for a fuel stop. Then it's a 10 mile sprint through more back roads to AL41 and there we will begin a whole new riding experience for some of you. RIDE AT YOUR OWN PACE ... RIDE AT YOUR OWN PACE ... RIDE AT YOUR OWN PACE. For you mountain riders it will seem like a little bit of home hiding out in south Alabama, but for you flat land and desert riders you will probably be praying for it to end ... Happily ... and SOON! The first 20 miles on AL41 (mm 56 - mm 76 — THE SIDEWINDER) can be a challenging mix of ups and downs, twists and turns, blind curves and hills that for a novice, might seem like a mini Dragon at 60 mph. There are speed limit signs at the entrances to the severe twisties ... PLEASE - HEED THEM! We continue north through downtown Camden SHARP LEFT & RIGHT - PAY HEED and then down HWY265 (THE BACKSIDE) through Beatrice and Monroeville and ending at a GREAT BBQ restaurant, called MARK’S in Excel, just just 5 miles south of Monroeville, AL. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/820041 , WE MUST GET to MARK’S not later than 1300 as they close at 1400. Then either RTB or continue south to the Atmore, AL for the “Williams Station Day” Fall Festival!, The route is set. RIDE – 235 miles, TIME 4:45 + 2:30 meal and pit stops.

--- SUN – “Breakfast on the RUN” – OPTIONAL – For those that want breakfast there are many restaurants and what not south on 225 in Spanish Fort. https://www.yelp.com/search?cflt=hot...ish+Fort%2C+AL Hope you enjoyed yourselves ... Y’all come back now heah!

    CAMPSITE LOCATION **** CAMPSITE LOCATION

    Mellow,

This is a good time of year to tour The Alabama. It tends to be an oven in the summer months. They also have added many static displays over the years plus an extensive Vietnam section.

When you say ..."roll out about 0730 to begin our ride" ... am I correct to assume that I need to show up at say 630 or so to eat, drink... and be ready to leave the stagecoach at 730. or do you mean show up at the stage coach at 730.

It is about a 20 minute RTE to STAGECOACH from BlakelySP. We will leave STAGECOACH not later than 0900. One short pit stop around 1000 at Perdue Hill, AL for fuel and drink and then about a 2 1/2 hour ride to Marks in Excel, AL arriving about 1230 for lunch, they close at 1400. Then it's about 1 1/2 hour ride returning to base around 1530.

If it is easier and you want to, just meet us at STAGECOACH at 0745 for breakfast.

They open and close the gates at BlakelySP at dawn and dusk.

    Dan,
Hope to make it (just RSVP'd), will see if I can take Friday off. Any plans for Friday dinner in case we want to just ride over for dinner with the group or are people just planning to cook around the camp fires?

Mellow - you can easily spend several hours (or more) at the Alabama/Battleship park!

    Ride safe,
    Craig
