I notice that batteries for the ST1300 are shorter than my ST1100 battery but have more CCAs. Would there be any problems with using the 1300 battery in my 1100?

Unless you are having issues cranking your ST over at the 0? range (like slow engine turn) you don't need more CCA's. What you want is the max amp/hr you can get. This is the measure of the capacity of the battery. CCA's are just how much it can surge for a short period, not worrying about reserve or total time.

When it comes to batteries, "bigger is better". Just try leaving (or while testing) the ST1300 in the on position, draining the battery. It will die very fast!

Stick with the ST1100 OEM size. In 13 years of ST1100 ownership, I never had a battery problem other than old age. The st1300 is a different story.
ST1300 batteries are one of the few weak spots on the bikes. They are "under batteried", for lack of a better term. There is tons of information on the battery portion on this forum.
If I were buying a ST1100 battery, it would be this one:

According to Yuasa's site the ST1100 battery (YTX14H-BS) has slightly more CCA and AH than the ST1300 battery (YTZ14S).

Stay with the ST1100 battery. Different sites may have different values for the CCA and AH but I don't think it's enough to actually matter. So stick with what fits.

While the 1100s don't seem to have the number of complaints about battery life that the 1300 gets neither battery seems to be a stellar performer.

There are a couple of threads here about cobbling up the 1300's battery area to mount a higher capacity (AH) battery. Don't know if anybody's done the same for an 1100.

Using the 1300 battery won't get anything. You could go to a 40A alternator if you don't already have one. Going to all LED lights would save some amps and would be the equivalent of increasing Reserve Capacity.

91 ST1100, 111k miles. Not had best luck with lifespan (2 seasons at best) on std lead-acid batteries, last one being a "Firepower" from Menards. Kept it on tender for winter but both of the ones I had would not start the bike in 50F weather. So should I get an AGM battery or look more for CCA? Charging was working fine last I checked, in case that is a question. Thx!
