Currently awaiting recovery after traveling along M42 motorway in lane 3 and suddenly lose the speedometer and rev counter! Shortly followed by the engine cutting out. Coast on to hard shoulder trying to avoid everyone! Got a horrible feeling it might be the alternator! 33000 miles 2005

Have you checked the fuses and battery connections? A loose battery cable at the battery or the other end could cause your battery not to charge and give you the same symptoms. And by lose I mean if you can turn the wire on the bolt with all your strength even a little bit then the connection is not tight enough to deliver a full charge.
Next would be to start the bike and check volts at the battery. Should be 13.8 to 14.1 volt. Good luck

Sorry to hear about your problems matey.
I bet it was fun crossing three lanes of the 42 with no power. I hope you've changed your under garments since.
Sometimes it pays to have a warranty! Like 1900 of them.
Good luck with a speedy repair.

Hopefully you won't be down too long!

I have digital voltmeters on all of our bikes for just that reason. Although not highly accurate, annomolies are easily detected and rectified before leaving me stranded due to total failure of the charging/battery system

There's a guy in Cleethorpes who does reconditioned units for 1300 and 1100 for £275 but he need your old one before he'll send the new one. I hoping by the end of next week it might live again! I've only owned it for 10 days!!

BTDT, same symptoms except ABS light started flashing first. I bought a used one for a decent price. So far, so good.
