Rear end fill plug

I learned two things today. Don't over tighten the oil fill plug on the rear end of the ST 1300 the cap snaps off and your vacation is on hold. I was able to unscrew the threaded portion that was left but since it was a Sunday and plan was to leave Monday morning I was unhappy. The good news is that the fill plug on a 2005 Honda shadow is the same and we have one for sale so I was able to rob it to go on vacation. By the way the wife has a really nice 2005 Honda Shadow Aero 750 for sale if your looking for one.

Replace the $3.00 O-ring.

Same thing happened to me a couple days ago. Ordered a new one off ebay for $9. Make sure to put oil on the gasket just like an oil filter. Don't over tighten it, it takes 9 ft lbs of torque. I posted a thread on this a couple days ago. Fellow ST'ers say it's common for this to happen. Honda Part Number: 12361-300-000. Honda uses this plug on about every one of their motorcycles.

My STealer had a plug in stock had to order the o-ring. I will be more careful now.
