Pull off the windshield and black section on top of the dash and you can get to the motor. Sounds like your gear or cable is going out. Not a hard job to replace.

1. Windshield.
2. Black matte plastic piece over the dash (under shield).
3. Shiny black plastic piece lower in front of that. This may be part of the headlight assembly, but it covers part of the adjuster mechanism.

There is a thread elsewhere here that details how to take the adjuster apart, clean all the pieces and replace what you need to replace.

You cannot buy those parts separately from Honda. A new unit is not cheap.

BTDT, bent over and got the expen$ive T-shirt.

The only good thing is it gets fixed and back together quickly, rather than messing with trying to fab gears, etc.

BTW, the windshield mechanism on the new GL1800 looks different. Near as I can tell, it's flexible cables running over pulleys and wound around a motor driven drum (at least I don't think it's a rack and pinion style like the ST1300). Kind of hard to tell from Fred Harmon's pics.
