I've been following the IBR pretty closely this year and have decided to do an SS1k from north of Dallas to Minneapolis. I plan to stay at or near the IBR hotel for the finish on Friday. I'll leave about 5am Thursday morning, hoping to be finished and in my Minneapolis hotel room by 11pm. I'll be riding up with one of the IBR volunteers, who helped me decide to do this. I've done a few 750 mile days but never 1000+. We'll see how it goes. Now to figure out the paperwork and hope I don't have any trouble getting witnesses!

If I feel pretty good, I may do another on Saturday to get back home.

You may want to check out the IBR Rally website. There are several "ride in" SS1k's planned with the destination of the IBR headquarters in MN and the routes are set.

Thanks for that Tom. I did check that out and was planning to ride one of those solo but this one fit my schedule better, plus my riding partner has just a little bit of LD experience. ;)

Yea the group RideIns would have been the way to go. They keep track of all the Mileage & Witnessing paperwork, and all U do is hang on to a coupla Gas and Toll receipts.
It ends up as a Group ride finishing at the IBR Hotel in MSP, where they issue your SS1K Certificate. It had 10 start points in Midwest. Prob. Ur closest wld. have been K.C.
I missed the cutoff registration date. It was a great riding plan this year on their website. I just never saw it in time.
Will catch it next time. Enjoy the Ride.

Have fun and be safe. The ride up the north shore is spectacular.

Great idea! The ST1300 makes an IBR so simple. It's not totally pleasurable, but it's a great way to go.

I did both of mine on the ST. Just keep the wheels rolling as much as possible, and you're good.

You have the witness thing covered, your fellow rider will do nicely. Just make sure to get some time and date stamped receipts at the start and finish. You'll also need one for any abrupt changes in direction. An example is, I did a 1500 24 hour ride a few months ago, started in Kyle(receipt ) to El Paso ( receipt) for turn north to Albuquerque ( receipt) turn east to Amarillo (receipt) then turn south to Kyle(finish receipt).

i can't stress how important it is to consume fluids. Probably about double what you think would suffice.

Have fun and safe trip
Tim

Thanks for the tips Tim. AFAIK, a person riding with you cannot be a witness for your ride.

I don't have a Spot, so for this trip I'm using SWconnect on my iPhone to link with Spotwalla. If you'd like to see where I am, go here. I plan to leave tomorrow morning about 5am CST.

I've not used SWconnect much and it's not very intuitive, so not sure how well this will work real time. Thought I might use you guys as guinea pigs. ;)

All done and in my hotel room. Went pretty smooth, no issues, got all my receipts and witness signatures. Bike ran perfect. Me, not so much... I'm tired! The beginning and end were good, the middle was kinda tough, temps were high of 97° and bright sun. No rain.

WTG! Welcome to the club.
side note: just checked Kendoo, it appears he's about a 100 miles or so northwest of Minneapolis.
