My mechanic says I need a new water pump for my 1993 ST 1100 and Honda doesn't have any. We can't find a source.

Any help???

I do believe you can use a pump from later years, which are still available, but there were changes to the design to add an oil cooler at some point, so I seem to remember someone here talking of a work around for that. I think John O. on this forum has that knowledge. Otherwise, another forum member, Jim Van, has rebuilt his water pump and could offer help on parts sources for that.

Any USA 1992-1995 ST1100 water pump should fit your '93. What part number is your mechanic using? And why does it need replacement? Last I heard Honda still had this part available.

1996 and later water pumps can be installed on 91-95 STs if the oil cooler is removed. A new Water Pipe and Oil Filter Boss have to be installed.

John, just so I'm clear, did they do away with the oil cooler on the 96 and later year models?

Do you mean remove the oil cooler and not re-install?? What is the part number for the water pump that is available? This pump is leaking out the weep hole which they say is an indication of internal seals. We have tried to find the internal parts but nothing available that we could find. We would like to rebuild this one.

Yes, remove the oil cooler and not re-install. Parts to retrofit to 96-02 configuration (from Partzilla today):
19200-MAJ-G20 WATER PUMP $238.83
90019-MB0-000 BOSS, OIL FILTER $6.12
19510-MAJ-G20 PIPE, WATER $43.20
There may be some other minor parts that don't come to mind just now.

Jim Van, a member here, has experimented with rebuilding water pumps:

Your other option is to find a salvage unit.

The rebuild Jim Van performed happened to be on my old pump from a '97. I don't know if the bearing/impeller that need to be swapped are the same for all years, or if they are different between the 92-95 and 96-02 versions.

I was gonna do it as part of my timing belt change. Either last summer or the summer before the WP was available for $250. Now it's obsolete. @BillU did you ever get this done?

And here's the confusing part, if you look at these two diagrams (one for the 1992 and the other for the 1996) the look the same.
