Hi, I've just had my bike ( 2003 ST 1300 ) in for new tyres to be fitted and it was discovered that the wheel bearings in the rear wheel are badly worn.

I have done some searching on this excellent forum and think that I have the correct information but would just like confirmation please.

It would appear that the rear wheel has 3 wheel bearings fitted ?

Am I correct that I need to order 2 x 6905RS Bearings and that they sit back to back and then for the other side 1 x 6204UU.

Based on this info I contacted a local bearing retailer and the prices are great ie £4.50 each for the 6905's and £5.50 for the 6204.

He did mention though that this seemed a very odd setup as the 6204 and 6905 have different centre bore diameters?????

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Darryl

A steel collar press fits inside the 6905 bearings which reside inside the driven hub so those two 6905s have a larger ID inside diameter than the larger OD wheel bearings that slip over the axle. IIRC that is why.

Thanks that makes perfect sense.

In addition I think there is also a 20 x 47 x 20.6 or 5204 bearing so that will actually make 4 that I require

Yes, two wheel bearings and two driven spline bearings. Former support the weight of bike onto the axle and two align and support the spline hub.

I believe that there are four required bearings:

1) BEARING, RADIAL BALL (6905RS) --- 91052-KZ4-J2 (2 required)
2) BEARING, RADIAL BALL (6204UU) --- 91052-MAE-004 (1 required)
3) BEARING, RADIAL BALL (20X47X20.6) (NTN) --- 91053-MN5-003 (1 required)

Thanks so much.

That line drawing is a godsend and much appreciated.

My local bearing shop has all of those in stock so I will get them ordered.

Cheers Darryl
