When I first bought the bike a couple of months ago,but only ridden it 1/2 dozen times, from cold it always had a bit of a clunk putting it into 1st gear, but now the clunk has got considerably worse & has even started doing it from warm?

Sorry to hear it.
I would start with checking the bushing in the lever and that the lever push rod is in place. Then bleed the clutch.
Hope it helps.

Some clunk is normal
If you are just starting up, you might have the choke on and therefore the Idle would be higher than 1100rpms
Higher idle = louder clunk. Reduce the choke to get the idle lower as you shift to first.

I didn't have luck with synthetic. I went back to Delo after trying Bel Ray and Schaeffer's. Getting to first from neutral always give me the clunk though.

24 years and 188k - no clunk. Always use synth blend oil, Golden Spectro and now Pro Honda. "Snick" beST describes it, firST and every other gear. FWIW Hey, it's a '91, they got it right, right off. :)

Thanks for all the info guys. I started the bike this morning & let it fully warm up so the choke was off this morning and put in into first,no clunk. I'll still give it a oil & filter change just to be safe though.
