Good luck with the search. Latest versions here in the UK were 2002.
Go for ABS - you'll see the pulsar rings on the front and rear wheels, but check that the ABS lights go on when the ignition is turned on (so that you know the bulbs are working) and that they go out when the bike starts rolling forward. This proves that the ABS has armed itself and that the sensors and modulators are working. Ditto the Traction Control light if it has it. They can be expensive to repair.
OEM exhaust system is not stainless steel, and can corrode badly. In the UK I would get through silencers in around 35000 miles.
Take a look here. When I was selling my 2000 ST1100 ABS/TCS/CBS model, I put some stuff on my website pointing out what would need doing typically for a 2nd hand bike, and what I had done. Look under the Selling link in the right hand menu. Just trying to drum up interest at the time. I kept it on the site for info. It sold in 2009 for £3000 with 70K on the clock. Subsequently it was knicked and then found and cosmetically restored to original spec. It is still on the road.
