Stock 1300's are listed as:
F: 120/70ZR - 18 radial
R: 170/60ZR - 17 radial

Those are listed as available.

The ST1100 use 110/80-18 front and 160/70-17 rear. However, I used the above sizes for my ST1100 because the stock rear ST1100 size is not made. They fit just fine. The first number is the width and the second number is the percentage of the width that is the sidewall. If you go up one size in width and down one in sidewall, you end up with basically the same height tire, just 10 cm wider.

I believe that's 10 mm wider. ( Or about 1/2" for you metrically challenged US types :) )

True, my mistake, cm not mm (sorry). Centered on the rim you are only 5cm (1/4") over each rim side. Still within spec of the rim width with no contact issues.

I've got about 500 miles on the set I bought and really like them so far. Holding final judgement for a hot day across some tar snakes.

I have ran PR2's, 3's and 4's for years, got 12k for the 2's and the last PR4 GT's I got over 16k. Went cheap last set and went with the new kid on the block, Bridgestone's T30 EVO's. Only made 6,200 mile to wear bars on rear, lesson learned, don't change from a good thing.

Ordering PR4's this week, never again will I fall for the dream of better tires from Bridgestone, sorry to say I did fall once before for the 023's promise too . Screw me once, shame on you, screw me twice, shame on me. :cus:

I had the wider size on my bike when I bought it. Replaced it with the stock size. I seem to get a little better mileage now. Probably my imagination or the fact that I tend to use 5th gear more than I used to.

I am putting a 190 55 PR3 on my rear tomorrow. My question to the group?? I am getting uneven wear. I had cupping and now threads showing on only one side of the Shinko after about 9000 kms. I assume it is not aligned properly. I install myself. What did I do wrong????

What Shinko did you have?? it makes a difference. Why do I scrape toes on right side only?

I think riding style is a HUGE factor and really my ST1300 is only used for IronButt rides  I am currently running my fifth set of PR4GTs and its the same thing lots of cupping/scalloping by 5000KM then pretty done by 8000KM. I have a set of PR3s that are up next because they were aaaaaa free LOL then I am thinking I need to try the Angel GTs ??? I see that the AngelGT front 120/70R18 comes in an "A" type but does the AngelGt rear 170/60R17 come in an "A" or are you all running a different size ?
Also is anyone running the a set of Metzler Z8 "M-spec" or maybe a Z8 front / M888 rear combo ? how do they wear ?

thekaz, how does one obtain free PR3s??? I am jealous. Here in Newfoundland, I am paying $225 for the tire plus 15% tax and tire levy, then $40 to bring wheel to dealer to have tire installed. My birthday is this month, my darling wife is buying me a bead breaker, which I have ordered. Problem is, I can't find a balancer for less than $150 or so. My friend bought a balancer at harbor freight for less than $40 while he was vacationing in US!!! same one I am looking at for $140. Hurts to pay that much more. Harbor frieght won't ship to Canada.

Can't wait till Sept 10 or so to get my tire from Royal distributing so I visited local shops. Found a Michelin PR3 having it installed today. Guy there suggests under inflation or crappy cheap Shinkos tire caused the uneven wear as it can't be misalignment b/c it is shafts driven. Is he right? See photo attached. I ran 36/38 pounds for about 4000km then upped pressure to 44 for last 4-5000 km. Most of those kms were one up touring in North East US. So total of about 9000 km on this Shinko verge 009.

this is similar to what I balance with except I built a big solid stand. Usually takes a few minutes to balance :D most modern tire take little if any weight too..
the free tires were from a dyno shoot out with my ZX12R_A2 :D

paulcb.. Thanks those are fantastic articles that I can't wait to finish reading tonight. Seems to explain tire wear in detail that even I can understand!
Love this forum.
