Since the odometers in that era rolled over at 100k miles you have to take his word for it that its rolled over 9 other times prior to this one.

I agree with him that swapping engines is often easier than rebuilding them, but really is what he has is a 75 Goldwing frame with 1,000,000 miles...;)

Not that putting 1,000,000 miles on motorcycles is a small task...just saying...

Our race refined motorcycles of today are so well built that they could last a million miles or more.
Bikes built long ago will shake themselves to death and leave you stranded on even a short trip.
The lack of vibration in our ST1x00's makes the ride smoother but to my engineering experience makes the bike last longer.

I bet, in time, someone here will put a million miles on their ST.....

I don't really see how this is of any consequence. If an engine fails, its just another replacement part in the overall scheme of things. When you do an engine swap the DMV doesn't force you to reset the odometer to the mileage on the replacement engine, because the odometer mileage is an attribute of the complete vehicle, not its individual parts. He has put a million miles on that vehicle, it doesn't need to be qualified down to the individual components.

Good for him! 1 million miles is quite an accomplishment.

if you scroll down you can see a pic of his odometer at 999,999 then 0 when it rolled over to 1,000,000

I was amazed that someone would ride the same motorcycle for 41 years averaging 24,390 miles per year

He could have had his engine rebuilt I suppose and then technically said he put it all on 1 engine, but the only thing that might have been original is the cases.

I don't care a million miles on the same basic motorcycle is quite a bit of riding on 1 bike. Most guys like to brag they have had 30, 40, 50 even 60 bikes since the mid 70's. This guy had but ONE, and rode the wheels off the thing!

Much admiration here.

You know that old saw, "This here axe is the best axe I've ever owned. I replaced the handle three times and the head twice." Regardless - the Owner is the one who has put a million miles on a bike, and on the same one? Heck of an accomplishment in this throw away world.

Ten years and I'm still working on my first 100,000 on one bike. I can't see myself ever keeping one bike that long. That is quite an accomplishment.

Nope. His odometer was at 99,999.9 before rolling over. The older bikes had a tenths digit in both the main odometer and the trip odometer.

Here's a picture of my FZR1000 odometer before/after rolling over 100k miles, same format as the GW guy.

You are right, I blew it up on my ipad and it does show 99,999.9

He claims to have a maintenance log which should verify his mileage. I trust that he's legit.

Wonder if Honda will do anything for him.

I almost bought a pristine Vetter equipped 76 Wing with 14K on it two years ago, but decided I didn't need a garage queen because I wasn't going to ride it much. I have my 93k ST1300 and my 35K Cb1100 for that.

He was on his fourth motor. It was said that he was getting about 300k miles per motor. A 1975 motor was designed and built before CAD and CAM. So they were machined and built by hand. impressive.

300k miles on any motorcycle motor (engine for you perfectionists ;) ), much less one from 1975, is impressive.

Dang that's alot. You don't see many cars or trucks with that many miles on them, even diesels. My neighbor had a 20 year old Dodge Ram 1 ton with 550K on it. I almost have 75K on my ST1300.

When I was purchasing my new 1977 Yamaha 750 there was a used 1975 GL1000 on the floor and the sales rep was encouraging me to buy the GL. Both bikes had the same out the door price. In the end I got the Yamaha, but the GL was probably the better bike.
